Anyone else slightly terrified that DD will come out a DS?

Our ultrasound technician was pretty daggum sure that the baby is a girl - "I see ze golden arches, zis is definitely zee girl!" she exclaimed.  (no, really.  It was uncomfortable.)Embarrassed

Yet there's an itty bitty fear that I either had a very shy or slowly developed little boy at the time, and WHAT IF HE COMES OUT AS A HE?   Of course I'd love him just the same, but that would mean a serious need of new baby clothes and decorations.  Ahh!!

(Baby's healthy and doctor doesn't want to do any more ultrasounds unless something comes up, or else I'd just double check at this point.)

Anyone else have this fear?  I know I'm being neurotic, but hey - this does happen every so often!!  Smile

  • There is always that thought that it could happen.  I actually have the name Nathan James picked out just in case.  And I have kept some of my receipts for the baby girl clothes that I have bought.  I found out it was a girl at 18 weeks, and I have asked at the 24 week and 30 week ultrasound and they keep confirming it is a girl.

I think you have to be confident no matter what comes out.  That is your sweet baby, and you are the mother.

I didn't even realize I had this fear until I recently landed in the hospital unexpectedly.  Since they were doing an u/s anyway, I had the tech confirm it was indeed a girl.  So, I have no advice for you, but to try not to think about it too much.  I actually haven't thought about it since.  It's not like there's anything you can do about it anyway. :)

  • Not terrified or anything like that, but once we got the curtains up (pink) and I made her quilt and many of her other decorations... DH said.  I sure hope that the ultrasound tech was right.  I just looked at him sideways.  Like did you seriously just say those words!

  • DH thinks that saying we won't be sure it's a girl until she is here is a really funny game to play. Not cool DH, not cool.

  • We aren't terrified by it, but would be amused if that were the case.  I think I would be more paranoid about it if we didn't already have a serious stash of stuff from DS.  We were told they can only say for 90% sure if it's a girl.  We've had two ultrasounds and both said girl, so we shall see!

  • This happened to a good friend of mine-thought she was having a girl, and it was a boy!  He was also born on the side of the road, delivered by the fire department, so it was a pretty crazy birth story.  Now she has a ton of pink clothes and two little sons.  Life goes on-she seems pretty darn happy.

We're having a boy, but I try to go as gender neutral as possible.  The room could def. be used for a girl (mint green and chocolate brown), and the clothes have things like little bugs, puppies or sock monkeys on them.  It would be pretty strange, though, after referring to him as a 'he' for 6 months....

  • I've been thinking about that all week!  I'm a teacher and I was home on Spring Break this past week so I spent the whole time working on the nursery--purple walls, "Evelynn" up on the wall, butterflies, the whole nine yards.  We already have a 5 year old daughter so I also washed all of her blankets, bibs, 0-3 month clothes, etc.  Of course, that is all pink and flowery too!  Good thing the baby will be sleeping in our room to begin with so we'd have time to re-paint and re-decorate the nursery if 'she' turns out to be a 'he'!

  • I'm not at all worried. I saw on the ultrasound pretty good proof that he was a boy. I actually blurted it out before the u/s tech said anything. So unless we're having a DD with a penis, I think we're safe :)
  • We were joking about this last week.  I have another u/s on Weds so I will be asking the tech to confirm that we are safe with the pink bedroom!

  • I wouldn't say terrified, but definitely think about it. We've just gotten so used to the idea of her being a girl that it would be a little sad if she turned out to be a boy... Not a huge deal, but I hope she stays a girl after all :) We had our AS kinda early - at 17 weeks - but our tech was convinced that it was a DD.

  • Not terrified, but definitely nervous!  I've thought about it since our u/s because I couldn't quite see the goods ya know.  We have our 4-D u/s today and that is going to be my first question!
  • I had this thought and realized I would be pretty sad if I got the gener switched on me. Although I am having a boy. I have known him as Leo for 10 weeks now and I have dreamed of having two boys running around. It would be so strange to have that changed on us. Originally I would have loved a girl but now that I "know" him I would be upset to be told differently.

I didn't see the penis but my tech said it was there. She hurried through the exam so much that it did leave doubt in my mind that she was being thorough. I have a scan at 29 weeks so I am going to have them confirm we are still having a Leo.

  • I'm not terrified, but you always hear stories.  During the A/S I asked the tech, who seemed positive it was a girl, then the doctor came in and I asked him, he looked and with in seconds said it was a girl.  My 3D tech said the same thing last week.  You'd think after 3 people say it, you'd feel comfortable, but there is always that chance.

    I guess we'll see!

    DD - Lucia Alessandra 6/18/12  ~~~  Welcoming Baby Boy!! - 3/26/14

  • That happened to my friend two years ago. The worst part is that she had a high-risk pregnancy (had dealt with cervical cancer and had a hysterectomy scheduled right after her c-section), so she had ultrasound and after ultrasound during her pregnancy. I think she had about 8 after all was said and done. I'm not sure if she just never asked to confirm it was a girl or if the techs all said it was a girl. She desperately wanted a girl and her and her BF were thrilled when they were told it was a girl. They bought all pink things, had a huge pink shower. And dammit if the baby didn't come out a boy.

We are having a boy and the tech was very confident when she told us. The shot wasn't passed on to our OB, but she said to rest assured, if they say it's a boy, it's a good chance it's a boy. There is always a risk that something is hiding when they say it's a girl. OB said all we could was assume it's a boy, carry on, and laugh if it's a girl. The nursey is pretty neutral, it's all white, white crib, white bedding with two small navy stripes on the bedskirt. But we've got tonnes and tonnes of very masculine clothes. Really, all we would be able to do is laugh if we had a girl. The thought has crossed my mind, but I just have to go along assuming it's a boy!

  • I'm in the same boat.

We had a 3D elective ultrasound and the tech said she was 100% sure it was a girl, so we're painting the room lavendar and have a whole mess of girl clothes on hand.

Still frightened of her coming out with a dink.

  • I would be totally worried about this, makes me glad I'm team green.
