Birthday suggestions for a teenager

So, we're less than a month away from L's 15th birthday (pardon me while I cover my head and scream - this is scary!). He's doing a joint family party with his cousin who's turning 6 (all of DH's family and SIL's family plus my side - and hehe, SIL's turn to host), we've had the family party for the two of them every year. L actually told SIL he wanted a baby boy cousin on his birthday - and got it (out of 9 cousins, they're the only 2 boys)!

I know what to get DN, he's easy. But buying for a teenger who's line is, "I dunno, whatever.", ugh. He's in serial casts again, so doing an activity present is out. So WWYD?

  • Does he have an Iphone or Itouch that takes pictures?  I got my 13 yo nephew these small, nickel sized camera lenses that are magnetic and attach to the camera on the phone/touch and help it take better pictures.  They weren't that expensive and you can buy them individually or a set that has like telephoto lens, and all these interesting lenses.  My nephew also loves Itunes GC's to get music or apps.

  • I know it's not a personal gift, but my kids always liked gift cards to their favorite places. My daughter turned 16 and asked for gift cards to, McDonald's (I no...) and Forever 21, her 2 favorite places on earth which she's at often.  That way she can get what she wants when she wants.

Not know what your son likes, because each teenager has their own thing, I guess you could see what he's really into and go from there.

  • I said visit his favorite video game store, but I'd change my vote to "contribute to big ticket item" if he's got his eye on something already.

I'm a big fan of money or GCs to teen's favorite stores.

Yeah, dumbbunny had his itouch stolen at school, he bought it, and he can pay to replace it. It's on his save list (or previous suggestion for itouch would be great). He's into video games, girls (looking, not touching, he's not there yet), cooking and sewing. He has everything he needs here for cooking and sewing, it's mainly just his video games he asks for. And the running joke around here because he doesn't really ask for much is, "Well, just give me socks and underwear". I'd love to be creative, but I don't want to give him anything he's not interested in. And like most teenagers, he never really says what else he wants.

I do like the gc suggestion for McD's or something. We have that, a Timmies (lol go figure) and Wendy's all within walking distance. He does like a hot chocolate before school once in a while.

  • I'll say socks and underwear....with a GC to a favorite store (video or clothes) tucked inside!   Make him wonder, just for a minute, "They really thought I was serious about socks and underwear??"

  • Some of the malls around here to gift cards to the entire mall and they look like credit cards so they are kind of cool looking for kids.  I did that for my husban's BFF's two oldest daughters and they had fun with them.

  • I think a gift card to a favourite store/video game store would be great for most teen boys as would money and clothes. I couldn't pick just one because it would really depend on the teen. Money usually works well for teens if you aren't sure of what they are in to.

Snicker - dh would totally do this!! Thanks guys, gift cards win, but I'm wrapping them up in the socks and underwear. He'll have to dig. And I can avoid the "Mom, that game was so 10 minutes ago".

  • From the video game choice I am guessing he is a gamer. One of these sort of chairs would be a great gift for his room. (They come in a variety of price ranges.)
