milk transition

when are you/did you starting the transition to milk? and how gradually are you doing so? Also, is anyone choosing not to do WCM even if their child doesn't have a milk allergy and have decided to use soy milk instead?

Re: milk transition

  • We will be starting the transition to WCM after Chase's first birthday, so in a few weeks.  My plan is to make the transition over a couple of weeks.  4 days at 75% BM, 25% WCM, 4 days at 50/50%, 4 days at 25% BM, 75% WCM.

    Chase was born 4/23/2011
Carlene was born 4/18/2014                          A14 siggy challenge:  Junk Food

That's pretty much our plan as well, although I think our transition may be faster since she's had milk already and loves it.

  • We just started this week with about 25% WCM in each bottle/sippy of formula. Each week I'm going to increase it by 25% until she's completely on WCM. We did the same thing with DS

  • We're at 50/50 with formula and milk now. We have 2 small cans of formula left, so we'll be done soon. My pedi always recommends things on the early end, so he told us we could start weaning her at 9 monts if we wanted to, but we didn't.

  • We pretty much went straight to WCM and DD loves it. As far as Soy, our pedi said to try and stay away from it unless there is a milk allergy because it doesn't contain as many vitamins and minerals as WCM which she needs.

  • i have a friend who is vegan and they were told to use soy toddler formula until their ds was 2 because of soymilk not having enough fat. my dd seems to have a milk intolerance (i`ve tried into to wcm twice now, no dice) so i am starting her on one feed a day of soy formula. she loves it all, lol. I`m actually just pg again too, so i am planning on continuing bf as long as i can for a couple feeds a day. my midwife told me bf?ng is great for keeping your sugars in check, and i had gd last time, so i`m hoping to bf the whole way through.....
  • She drank 6 oz. bottles of formula...so we started with 2 oz. milk for a week, then increased to 4 oz. of milk...and then we ran out of formula after a couple of days of that so now she is 100% wcm and handled the transition really well.  And, this from a baby who had a milk protein sensitivity as a newborn!  It is so much easier now that she is drinking 100% milk.  No mixing!  No transporting formula!  It's awesome.

  • Once things settle down a little (haha) from coming home from the hospital we are going to trial milk since he has/had (?) and allergy or intolerance. We're going to attempt some yogurt and my fingers and toes are crossed that he handles it. I haven't even gotten to the point of discussing with the pedi what to do if he can't handle milk yet.

  • I was really torn on this but I decided to already begin introducing wcm - I started with 1/2 wcm 1/2 bm and Liam loved it. I did that for two sippy cups with dinner and now I give him all wcm with dinner. I was planning on a much slower transition but Liam took right to it. I still plan on BFing for a while but now I have the peace of mind that I can stop pumping soon and that feels good :)

I should have done more research, but for the next week or so (and for the last week) we have been replacing a formula feeding with milk - she's still getting about 12-14 oz of formula daily. From there...? She's had no reaction to milk and she freaking loves it. My pedi is a die-hard "No milk until 1"er but .... eh... it's a long story.

God. I'm not good at this stuff.

Aww Why do you say that you are not good at this? Sounds like you are doing fine.  We started about 2 weeks ago with the intention of going very slowly and mixing and reducing and blah blah blah. Once we got to about 1/2 and 1/2 Jack wouldn't take it.  We tried straight and that is all he wants now. Whatever, I took back the 2 cans of formula we had left and had $60.00 in my pocket!!
