Best disposable diaper brand?

I'd like to use disposables for the newborn stage-just don't think it's worth investing in cloth for such a short period of time (we're doing g diapers).

Any opinions on brands?  Ones that don't irritate skin?  That fit small babies well?  Ones that don't use that many chemicals?

Re: Best disposable diaper brand?

  • My daughter is 5 1/2, so it's been awhile since we've had to do diapers.  I remember really liking Pampers Swaddlers when she was first born.  After a few months, though, we just bought whatever was cheapest :)

  • We ended up using huggies with DD. We tried pampers but when we used those she always was red, had diaper rash and we could feel dampness through her pants even right after she went pee.

  • Pampers swaddlers are by far the best for us!

  • I like the pampers swaddlers because they have little cutout for belly button cord and the line that indicates "wet"

  • The best type is whatever doesn't irritate or leak.  I wouldn't go too crazy buying diapers ahead of time.  Your hospital probably uses Pampers (they seem to have the exclusive contract) - and you'll get to take some home.  If you have an extra pack or two of newborn diapers at home, you'll be good for the first couple of days.  My DH was more than happy for an excuse to run out and grab a new pack.

This. We've used Pampers since DS was born. Huggys leak every time.

  • Pampers Swaddlers for sure!!! Huggies always leaked with us.

When baby gets to a size 1 or 2...switch over to LUVS...they are great and cheap!!!

  • Pampers Swaddlers are awesome, I've never had good luck with Huggies or Luvs.  We are also using cloth after they get out of size ones, but until then it's all Swaddlers.

I just bought some of these today. Now I just have to wait to try them.

  • I will say, if you are planning to CD and you don't have a really big baby brewing in there, a small stash of newborn prefolds and covers will end up being quite a bit cheaper over the first 2-3 months compared to sposies.  You can get 2-dozen prefolds and three covers new for $60-70, used a little less!

  • Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive are great for newborns. That's what most hospitals use and ours sends you home with.

We've ended up sticking with Pampers (we CD part time also). I've tried Huggies and Up & Up but have had bad experiences with both. It does depend a lot on your kid and their body shape though.

  • I like huggies swaddlers or huggies pure and natural. Huggies and pampers newborn diapers have the belly button cut out and most newborn to size 1 or 2 have the wetness lines.

For DS huggies worked best for us, but it depends on the LO and the parents. It doesnt matter how great the diaper is, if you have a little boy and DH has it pointing up on his diaper changes you will get lots of leak outs... (it took me finally watching DH change a daiper to realize why he always had the leak outs.) Also if you have a circ boy, the first few days you put gauze on it, and the gauze has to be completely in the diaper or else it will leak out... - Did i mention DH had never changed a diaper before DS.
