How much time, if any, are your DH's planning on taking off once the baby is born? And I guess I am speaking to those DH's that can't work from home and don't have any sort of paternity leave available to them. DH will have 2 weeks vaca come June and I was trying to plan a vaca for us this summer. It didn't hit me until today that he will want to be home for at least a week after the baby is born, possibly longer.

Re: DH & work after baby
October 2012 Moms Blog
Well DH will be deploying before October but he should be allowed a 2wk paternity leave. It just may not be right after the baby is born. Hopefully it's in the first month though.
After DD was born DH wasn't working but was in school full time. He missed classes when I was in the hospital but that was it.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
My DH took off 5 business days after DD was born. I had her on a Sunday, he took that M-F off work, then the weekend, and he was back at work the following Monday.
That's the plan again this time around, he's the Boss-Man and they don't function well when he's not there.
He has 4 weeks of vacation and has Christmas Eve Day till Jan 3 rd off. So, I'm hoping he will be home 2-3 weeks off then use some of his left over time for Thanksgiving to visit family.
I'm thinking about possibly leaving for 4 months then going back part time. We will be single parents who will be married since I'll be working weekends while he works during the week to cut out child care. I'm a nurse and work 3 days/12 hr shifts ...I would just be handing my third day paycheck to a nanny so I might as well stay home.

I will be transitioning to a full time SAHM(finally!!!!) once the baby is born, so I will have an endless maternity leave. DH will have just gotten his Green Card and a job if all goes well, so he will have no vacation time and will probably not be able to take off his new job. We have no worries about that though!!!
H works at home. Last time, his employer arranged it so that he didn't actually have any work to do the week after DD was born, and he had small projects for a few weeks after that so he was around for awhile.
I am a SAHM.
I LOVE our arrangement.
DH is self employed as a contractor, so if he doesnt work he doesnt make money. When DS was born I had him on a Thursday and DH went to work on Saturday to catch up on the days he missed at that job so he could stay on schedule. DS was also two weeks early, so his schedule was a little tighter than it should have been. This time we will see how his schedule looks, it would be nice to have him home for a couple days.
DH needs knee surgery and I am trying to talk him into doing it right after the baby is born so I can be home and take care of him. It would work out good because he could sit and hold the baby, or sit and watch movies with ds to make sure he gets lots of attention. My mom thinks I am crazy, but I think it would be perfect.
