I initially had a budget of $500 but now it is closer to $600. Most of it went on favors, food, and location. I plan on going all out because it is his 1st. After that it will be low key until he hits other big age milestones.

As much as I hate to day it, I think we will more than likely go over the $1000 mark. Mainly because we will be renting a tent for the backyard along with tables and chairs. I've been pricing these items and I thing it's going to run us about $400. Then in top of that there will be food, alcohol and decorations.

Ours is only going to be expensive because we are going to have some sort of entertainment for the children and we are inviting lots of people. It's only going to be in our backyard, too.

We're doing a backyard BBQ, but I budgeted $300. It's what I usually spend when I give a nice shower. Considering decorations, food, invites, a few activities- all for 30+ people- I think that's a reasonable estimate.
Well, we've already spent $300 renting the site. It's a log cabin with basically one large room with a loft. It has a full kitchen so we're going to be making all the food ourselves. We have a large family that lives locally and they will all expect to be invited. Our house is too small so we have to rent a hall or something.
We don't mind the $300 since the cabin is part of a camp for kids in the county who don't usually get to go to camp...it's kinda like a Fresh Air Fund type camp, All of the kids who attend get to go this sleepaway camp for free. One of the ways the camp raises money for itself is by renting out the building during the off season. So it's going to a good cause.
I voted for 500-1000 because I knoew we're going to wind up spending 200 on food, decorations, and stuff. Even though we're making the food and I'm making most of the decorations, all the indgredients and materials are going to add up when you're dealing with 60-70 people!

So far I have found all of our decorations, invites etc on clearance at target. I will bake his cake and hopefully get food and drinks on sale. Hoping to keep it under $100.

I clicked under $100, but now that I think about the costs, it will be over $1,000. We are flying to see my dad in HI for DSs and my birthday and our flights total over $1,000. As far as a party goes, we will only be having 4 adults and DS, so I'm sure it will be low in cost.

Am I the only one who thinks it's silly to spend that much money on a party for someone who is completely unaware of what the heck is going on? lol I mean, I get it if you're buying plane tickets to go visit your family or something, but to spend that much money on a venue plus food and entertainment for someone who will have no idea what's going on seems silly. I certainly don't mean to offend anyone, but unless you just have loads of money or something, I don't see it.

I will give you a thumbs up, because you said exactly what I was thinking, but didn't have the guts to hit "post". lol
I am combining Avery's bday party and my oldest dd's party. We are having a private skating party! It's going to be awesome. My budget for the whole thing is $400

Well, part of the reason we are having such a big party is because we did it Danny and I feel bad if we don't do it for Alex too. We have a large family and everyone expects to be invited. Everyone invites the whole family for the first bday. Unfortunately, we don't have the space in the house and yard for that many people. Our cousins all have larger houses with big yards so they could easily do a house party. So we need to rent a hall or something.
One of the main reasons we had a big party for Danny was his 1st birthday party was supposed to be a combo party. It would have been my mom's 60th. He was born on her 59th birthday and passed away when he was 4 months old. We had talked about having the big combo party before she died. So I threw a big party to take my mind off the fact that we missed her so much plus I knew she wanted him to have a party. And like I said before, I'll feel bad if we don't have a big party for Alex too.
Other birthdays will be small. Every other year, Danny has just has a small party with friends and cousins his own age. We just had his 4th birthday party last weekend here at the house. 6 kids(we invited 10) and I spent about 150 on food and decorations. Food was expensive since we did a make your own pizza party and the toppings added up.

I totally get where you are coming from and in a way, I agree. We enjoy having backyard bbqs in general when the weather is nice and always host a bunch of people, buy food, etc. and that's mostly what I'm looking at this as. It's not really for N, but for MH and I. I would have it at our house like the rest of our bbqs but with the number of people that expect to be invited, we don't have the room. I spent $100 on a grove in a nearby park and I'll get $25 of that back so only $75 really. The rest of it would be money spent on any of our other bbqs for food, beer, etc.

My parents want to throw a large party for DD at their house (in Hawaii) for all the family. When we get back home (to CO) we'll have a smaller party in our yard/house, 30 people including kids tops. We do easy stuff like burgers/hot dogs and I make the decorations from printables on Etsy. I voted the $100-$250 range. I'd love to make more fancy foods but it isn't an option with two young kids and no family to help. I'd lose my mind if I tried.
At this point I'm really not planning a party. Probably, I'll dress Maya in something cute and take pictures with her and DH and myself, and I'll make a cake. We have no family here and while I do have friends I can invite, I just don't think it's the same without family. I've been to1st B-day parties for two of my friends LO's since we've been here, and they really weren't that fun.
I do like the idea of a BBQ- that doesn't seem forced (which I think is why the parties I attended were a bit of a miss). That way it can be more of a casual "come out and relax" atmosphere, not a "come to our baby's party even though she won't remember or care".

I'm guessing a few hundred dollars, haven't really budgeted for it yet. But we're inviting at least 30 people so just on food and some little decorations I imagine it'll get into the hundreds. We don't throw parties too often so I want it to be nice. Of course Isaac will not really appreciate it, but I want it to be a fun party for those who attend. We're not renting a jump castle or anything but we are going to have some outdoor games for the adults and older kids.
