Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Day 11 of diarrhea...advice...

DD is now on day 11.  Day 3 spoke to dr and started florastor kids 2x a day.  Day 7went to dr...had to use similac for diarrhea for 24 hrs.  Th at has helped, she's now going 5x in 24 hrs instead of 7.  Not sure when I should call dr again or if I should try the formula again for 24 hrs...any advice?

Fyi...still eats all her formula and she is happy as anything u would never know she was having tummy issues

  • I would call pedi again but have you started solide?  Rice cereal, bananas, and applesauce are all "binding".  GL!

  • She's on oatmeal and has been for a month...we didn't want to start any new foods yet, bc we wouldn't necessarily notice a reaction...

  • My pedi always says that she starts looking for the source of the diarrhea if its been over 10 days.  DD had it for 12 days when she was two months old.  I had to take a stool sample to the hospital and they tested it for viruses, bacteria and parasites.  All was fine, but she did have too many white blood cells in her stool which led to her diagnosis of milk intolerance (which I'm sure isn't your case or it would have shown up well before almost 6 months).  HTH.

  • My DS had diarrhea for THREE WEEKS!!!!  It was insane.  He was/is EBF and I hadn't started solids, so the pedi just kept telling to nurse nurse nurse.  I had to constantly make sure he wasn't dehydrated by looking in his mouth and making sure it was always wet, and making sure he had tears when he cried.  Let me tell you...it was a long 3 weeks!

Did your pedi have you collect his stools to be sent to the lab to determine the cause?  My pedi had my DS stools checked for rotavirus, salmonella poisoning and something else.  All came back negative.  It was, apparently, just a virus?!

Good luck to you and I hope it passes soon!! :)

  • DD had diarrhea 6-8 times a day for over a month. It was from the rotavirus vaccine. Pedi had me BF like crazy and give probiotics. GL!

  • I don't have any advice, but we're going through something similar. We just started the Florastor yesterday.

Hope your LO starts pooping regular soon!

  • Sorry I was going to ask if you just started solids but sounds like you have that down already. When DD started we started with rice cereal and she got horrible diarrhea from it. At first we stopped feeding it to her (per pedi) then gave it a week, thought she got over whatever bug it was and started again. Happened again, then we knew it was the cereal. She didn't tolerate rice cereal at all so we went on to oatmeal.

  • FYI, this happened with one of my girls.  She is on Emfamil Gentleease.  We switched her to Soy (Enfamil Prosobe) per our Pedi's recommendation.  It worked great.  We kept her on Soy for about 2 weeks. Then she started getting a little constipated so we switched back to Gentlease and all is well.

    Just a suggestion.
