Newborn and just getting milk

I cannot remember if I was told to do his with DD or not. My milk just came in and I've been putting DS to the breast every two-three hours. The problem is, he is trying his hardest but cannot empty even one side for me. Should I pump after to reduce the engorgement?

  • Only pump for comfort if you need to. You don't have to. Your supply will adjust and his appetite will increase over the next few days.

This! Pumping anymore than just relieving engorgement could cause oversupply issues and make it worse.

Exactly... But don't be a martyr either, if you're in pain please pump a little. Baby may have difficulty latching to an engorged breast and you can end up with mastitis.  It's a delicate balance!
