OMG - I started running in Jan. and thanks to the nice weather, have
been able to get outside for my running a lot sooner than I thought I
would. I had already signed up for a fall 5K and was waiting to see how
I was doing. I decided to sign up for a 5K that is in 3 weeks thanks
to my DH's pushing me/supporting me. OMG - what did I do? Time to
really kick up my training - my longest run so far was 2.5 miles so I
know I can do it - I may be doing more of a walk/run combo than just a
run but as long as I finish, I will be thrilled. I am also signed up
for a Run for Autism in mid May - running to honor a friends son who has
Aspergers.

Re: 41 and running my 1st 5k in 3 weeks!!!!
woohoo!! Go you!!
I'm signed up for a couple 5ks and some other races...but I was racing before I got pregnant (but didn't start until I turned 40 - late bloomer too!)
report back on how training and race goes!
Thanks I will - I am really excited! I know my DH and kids are excited for me which totally helps and I have some friends that live along the race so they have already told me they will be cheering for me that day!
Good for you! I'll be 41 next month and started running last summer. I've done 2 5ks and plan on doing another one next month. I'm also signed up for a running class to help me prepare for a 10k.
You will be great. I did walk 2 times during my first 5k, but didn't walk my second. My best advice is really pace yourself in the beginning. Nerves will take over and you will want to try to keep up with the other faster runners. But you will burn yourself out (I felt like I was going to vomit during the first one).
Good luck!
Run like a girl!!!!!
I just signed up *today* for my first 5K. "Race day" is April 21st! Woot!
Keep us updated! :-)
Mac and cheese lover!
jlw that is awesome did you do C25K? I started running in January and ran (slowly) my first 5K on St. Patrick's Day!
I kept telling myself you can walk when you get to this landmark and when I would get to the landmark, I would say keep running and you can walk after this song is over. By doing that I ran the whole way and was across the finish line before I could walk! (Not that there is anything wrong with walking)
It was awesome and I am hooked. I just started training for a 10K this week and my next race is the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco.
You will do awesome.
