Oxyclean 101:: Educate me!!

I posted on 0-6 earlier today b/c someone else was asking advice on getting b/f poop stains out of clothing. The majority of people swore to oxyclean (which we have/use) but I still get a faded stain when its all said and done. One lady said use cold water and then another told me oxyclean doesnt work well with cold water...I usually just use spray n wash let it sit for a few mintues while the washer is filling...I'll let them soak for 20 mins or so in the oxyclean, run the washer and I still have stains!! What am I doing wrong??

:( Thank you!

Re: Oxyclean 101:: Educate me!!

  • If you are getting bad stains... make a concentrated tub of it in warm water and soak the clothes in question over night... they are always gone when I do this!
  • Loading the player...
  • I dont know what you are doing wrong...  I always use cold water and it always gets everything out!   Even dried blood!  Of course I've never had to get bf poop out of anything, but I cant imagine its worse than blood?

    Sometimes I will mix a really heavy concentrate in a spray bottle and pretreat the stain first, maybe that would work better for you?

  • I use a big mixing bowl and put about a half scoop in with hot water.. although i'm pretty sure I've used cold too. Soak the thing overnight.  And don't wash it til the stain is gone.  Once you wash and dry it, you're toast.

    It gets EVERYTHING out for me.  Even red wine on a linen outfit.

  • I use cold water with spray and wash and it works like a charm. I use All free and clear for detergent. I don't know what you're doing wrong?

  • Use Spray 'N Wash as soon as you get the stain. ?Then spray it again right before you wash it. ?I add a scoop of OxyClean to the washer. ?I've never pre-soaked. ?I also check to make sure the stains are gone BEFORE I dry the clothes. ?If not, I Spray 'n Wash it again run it through the washer again. ?If you dry it before the stain is gone, you'll "set" the stain. ?

    I've gotten out every type of stain so far, even Gentian Violet, which is supposedly permanent.?

  • I was just listening to a woman on the radio talking about using oxyclean to get red wine stains out of tablecloths - she said the secret is to let it soak for a WEEK! ?Supposedly the enzymes in oxyclean will eventually eat away the stain deposit, but give it a looooong time. Again, this was for red wine, but I would think it's worth a try on other stuff too.

    Good luck!?
