I am sure this has been asked before many times but I just starting thinking about it and well didnt read any prior posts... I know whats normal for me during a pumping session but I always wonder what is normal for everyone else.
I kinda feel like I have a little bit of a lower supply - My first pump of the day I get about 4.5-5 ozs each side. I then pump about every two to three hours after that and get about 1.5-2 ozs each side. Every once in a while I will get 2.5ozs but thats not often. For now its enough to feed Ana but I cant help but wonder whats going to happen when she gets older. I worry bc i dont think its going to be enough to feed her. Will I start to produce more?
About how often do you pump and about how much do you get per side?
Re: Pumping mamas
That's exactly what I get when I pump
I only work part time, so pumping isn't a huge worry for me. I pump every 2-3 hrs at work. I do squeeze in one pumping session before bed so that I have enough milk to top off bottles. (DS nurses at 7 and then wakes up to nurse again around 1 or 2...I pump around 10)
I have an oversupply issue so my output isn't normal by any means.
I pump 3 x per day: 9:30am I get around 15-17oz, 3:00pm 10oz, 9:00pm another 9-10oz.
I started EP'ing after a week of BF. I invested in the Medela PISA and pump both sides until empty (or as close as I can) which is usually about 20-30 min. I still pump 5x a day and get the greatest volume first thing in the morning 12-14 oz on average. After that it lessens to about 6-8 oz. After two rounds of Mastitis the left side produces less than the right so I try to pump that side longer.
Be sure to drink a ton of water and be sure your pump parts don't need to be changed out. Also try to increase your pump time or frequency if possible. The more demand should trigger the girls to produce more. DS is a light eater so I was able to quickly get ahead of him.
Are you pumping after BF'ing? If so that could also explain smaller supply
I EP and I'm pretty similar to you in output (and I think I have a lower supply too). In the morning I usually get 4 oz from each side which gives me enough for two bottles. Otherwise during the day when I pump I usually get about 2 oz from each side. Kellen eats 4oz bottles every 3-3.5 hours so I usually have just enough to feed him (and occasionally have to suppliment with two to four ounces of formula a day). I only pump 4 times a day. I think if I pumped more I might be able to get more but I'm not sure. I go back to work next week (boo) which means I will be getting up earlier so I may end up pumping 5 times a day (morning, twice at work, dinner time, and before bed). I have wondered too about having enough as he gets bigger but it sounds like there is not a huge deviation in amount up until at least 6 months... this is from kellymom...
In exclusively breastfed babies, milk intake increases quickly during the first few weeks of life, then stays about the same between one and six months (though it likely increases short term during growth spurts). Current breastfeeding research does not indicate that breastmilk intake changes with baby?s age or weight between one and six months. After six months, breastmilk intake will continue at this same level until ? sometime after six months, depending in baby?s intake from other foods ? baby?s milk intake begins to decrease gradually.
Hope that is true and we both are able to keep up with our LOs!
Babies on average drink 25-30 ounces of BM in a 24 hour period, no matter their age or weight. She won't need more milk as she gets older, the composition of your milk will change to meet her needs. Isn't that amazing!???!? Once she starts solids, she may drink a little less BM.
I pump one side right after he eats in the morning and get about 4 ounces, then 2 times at work and get about 2-3 ounces from each breast both times. He eats about 15 ounces at DC and nurses the other feedings.
i have a low supply and get about 20oz a day on a good day. bad days are at about 18oz. he gets 6-8oz of formula a day.
i measure everything in mLs (habit from when he was first born and we had latch issues). this morning was 131mLs (just over 4oz) on the left, 80 on the right (just under 3oz). throughout the day it's usually 3oz left, 2oz right... then at night it's 2oz left, 1oz right.
I don't know a per-side breakdown, but my left side always produces more.
I pump 4-5x per day averaging 9oz, 5oz, 4oz, 4oz, 3oz
I pump at 6:30, 10, 2, 6 and 10. (Some days I nurse and skip the 10/2/6 pumps.) my first pump of the day is around 11 oz, the rest of the day it's 5-9 oz per session (both sides) depending on my fluid intake, iron levels, etc.
Most days I'm just barely scraping by on covering what DD eats (she's a chow hound). The most I've ever pumped in a day is 38 oz but on avg I pump 32-ish. On a day w/o nursing, DD will avg 35 oz.
I track every pump & bottle and I used to pump way less when DD was younger. I have no idea how my body has known to increase - I assume nursing sessions have helped.
she won't really increase in oz as she gets older - like other PPs said, your milk changes to meet her needs.
I pump one side in the morning right before or after she eats and get 5-6oz. I pump 3 times at work and get 3-4oz total each time. Then I pump again about 3 hours after DD goes to bed and get another 3-4oz total. Overall I'm getting about 18-20oz per day.
I send almost all of it to daycare with DD (I send 16oz). Whatever I don't send stays in the fridge to use the next day. I like having a little extra leftover in case I have a bad pumping day, or if DD wakes up an extra time overnight (and therefore I don't always pump in the morning). Then on Fridays, I keep 10-12 oz of fresh stuff in the fridge and freeze whatever is leftover. Sunday nights I take 4-5oz out of the freezer and mix that with the fresh for Monday's bottles.
