I know that I've asked this on here before but I figured since there was a lot of new people I'd ask again. Does anyone else need to gain weight? I'm underweight and really struggling to gain anything. I've always been small but last summer when I got sick I lost 10 pounds in 2 months and haven't gained any of it back. It's frustrating and I'm discouraged. I feel like I need an accountability partner and was wondering if I was the only one in this boat.

I love my rainbow baby!
Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it. But I would like to see if someone else might be in the same situation first. And I completely agree to the bolded part. Whenever I mention it most people just blow me off and tell me they would love to be skinny. But being too skinny isn't good either. So thanks for pointing that out. And I'm very lazy, no excessive exercise here.

Hi Jenn,
I probably don't HAVE TO gain weight, but it certainly couldn't hurt. I was 10 lbs heavier when I got my BFP, and I often wonder if it's related. I lost the 10 lbs due to stress and depression. Believe it or not, I tend to gain weight when I'm most active because then I'm hungry all the time and I indulge myself. I'll be your accountability buddy, I wouldn't mind gaining 5 lbs. HTH!
Yay! My starting goal is 10 lbs even though I should probably gain more like 15-20. But at least 10 would put me back to a normalish weight.

I too need to gain some weight. Every dr's appointment I get an earful about how if I could just put on 5-10 pounds they would be happy. I have also struggled with it. I have switched to a 2% yogurt daily, I try to eat alvacado and have added a few other things. My problem is that my stomach is very sensitive to fats and oils, so if I do add other foods, I end up getting sick (and loosing more weight).

Wow, that sounds like me! I'm always choosing fattier foods but it doesn't seem to do much. And since I got sick last summer, my stomach as been a lot more sensitive and I get sick sometimes. But I haven't actually associated with any foods yet. You can be my accountability partner too! I'll send you a PM after my lunch.

You two could have taken these words right out of my mouth. The minute I eat something fatty or sweet I get raging acid reflux. We have to bulk up on the complex carbs like potatoes and rice. Good luck to you both!
In a strange way, I am so excited that I am not the only one that this happens to. DH thinks I am crazy and does not understand why I can not eat certain foods (even though he has seen the result when I do try to eat them). My latest addition is a whole milk yogurt smoothie every night. I seem to be able to tolerate them without a problem.

i've been working to gain a few pounds healthy although i don't have much more to gain. After I loss my baby I was pretty out of my mind and lost a lot of weight. When I got preganant I weighed 120 and after i had the baby during that horrible grief I got down to below 100 pounds. I am more around 115 now but my dr. said to definatly be eating more. A part of it for me is because i am diabetic everytime I eat something it requires needles, insulin, testing and carb counting. Sometimes I just don't want to do all that work to eat although I know that's not healthy.
just a question- have you ever been tested for crohns disease? I know someone who has/had it and the symptoms you have been describing sound similar.
rapid weight loss is also a sign of diabetes. I don't know if you ever have been tested but it might be worth it.
Hope you get some answers and get to feeling better soon
type 1 diabetic for 7 years. Been on the pump for 6 years.
I'm not in your exact boat but I am very tiny and have been the same weight since I was 16, which is 102. I did gain weight when I was pregnant, so I'm kind of dealing with the 5 extra pounds that I don't want but I do know where you are coming from in a way. I had to gain weight to get into the military and it's hard because your body doesn't want to be a bigger size for a reason, whether it's your bodies preference, medical issues or just life circumstances like stress.
Anyway, have you tried any protein shakes or mixes from GNC or another place similar to that? There are so many of them that go with water instead of milk. My husband loves a particular type that goes with water and it's called muscle milk. I realize you don't want muscle but it's a whole lot of protein, so in your situation, you would gain weight.
I would stay away from fatty things because that isn't healthy weight gain. That's going to kind of contraindicate the entire purpose of why you are gaining weight, which is to gain healthy weight. Have you talked with a nutritionist before? I would recommend things like cottage cheese, greek yogurt, protein shakes, high protein meals, etc. You don't have to eat crap just because you want to gain weight.
Gaining weight the right way is just like losing weight the right way. You want the weight to stay on and it become the size your body is comfortable with so it sticks. You have to teach your body. It's just like weight loss because fad diets are so unhealthy and the weight usually flies off until you hit a plateau and then it's over from there. The weight gradually comes back. When you exercise and diet properly, your odds are so much better for keeping the weight off and maintaining a size. Try to think of it that way. You are teaching your body what you want it to do.
Also, you have Celiac disease, right? I do too. I think that's why I am so small. I am ridiculously smaller than the majority of my family and I know that's what is to blame because my growing years my body suffered with poor nutrition absorption. Are you sure every piece of gluten is out of the way? Are you sure your body is completely free from gluten and on the path to healing? Your body can take around 3 months to rid all of the gluten from your body and that is when you truly begin to start healing.
Hope this helps!
Wow. That is a lot of advice! Thanks for taking the time to write it all, I appreciate it. I do know that I want to gain healthy weight and not just fat. Some people tell me I should just eat more ice cream and fast food and I give them the side eye. I do need to make more of an effort though to eat better healthier fatty foods and protein. I have thought about a protein shake but haven't actually gotten around to purchasing one. I may just bite the bullet and do it.
My sister is a nutritionist but I haven't found her to be overly helpful. She just tells me to eat more snacks. Which I guess is helpful and I'm just too lazy to do it. I should try harder. Hence the need for accountability partners.
I haven't officially been tested for celiac but I did try a gluten free diet for 2 months and didn't feel any different on it so I stopped. And I didn't feel any different after I stopped. I may ask to actually get officially tested once I get in with the internist. Thanks again for all the advice.

And yes I've been tested for Crohns and it came back negative. I dont' think I've been tested for diabetes yet though. I plan on getting a whole lot of testing done though once I get in with the internist. This needs to be figured out soon.
