Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Umm, when to move to faster-flow nipples?

My DD is still on the slow-flow nipples, I accidentally gave her a faster-flow one yesterday, she definitely was not happy about it, so I switched it right away. How do you know when it's time to move up? Do you just try and see if DC will like it a few weeks later?

  • Mine is 4 months and he's on the fast flow but we also keep rice in his bottle so that thickens it up a little bit. Usually the nipple will say slow flow newborn..or 0-3 and the fast flows are usually 3 or 6 months plus depending on the type of nipple. My son has been on the fast flow for about a month but he's a very aggressive eater.

  • I just gave level 2 to DS this weekend and he's fine with it. I usually go by the package and it said 3 months.
  • Liam has been using medium flow since 2 months and he is still happy with it. Drinks an 8 ounce bottle in 10/15 min. We use the orthopedic ones he seems to like that the best.

  • Asked pedi today and she said if he's not struggling to get his food down to wait until 6 mo.
  • Abby's almost 4 months, and she's been using the fast flow for a couple of weeks now. She was getting either fussy or sleepy halfway through her bottles and wouldn't finish them. I tried the fast flow nips and she's drinking her whole bottle again and has gone up an ounce from what she was drinking. She seemed to be getting frustrated with the bottle, I think she didn't like how long it was taking to eat.
  • I was wondering this too, but actually went out and bought them today and tried them.  So far so good, he seems to like it better.  I think he was getting frustrated.

  • My DD is still very satsfied with slow flow.  I am waiting for her to show signs of frustration before moving up but she is ebf and only gets a couple of bottles a day and none on the weekends oe evenings.
