yeah.
Two weekends ago, we were at a family bday party & DS & his cousin, who is a few months older than DS were hugging & kissing. Oh, how cute! Everyone said. Uh, no. I was cringing inside at the thought of germs, but didn't want to be "that mom" so I didn't say anything.
Well I guess maybe the next day (can't remember exactly), I notice a tiny pimple on DS's cheek next to his mouth. I didn't think anything of it. Tuesday was his well visit & pedi didn't mention it, either.
By the next day or so, it looked like an infected white head. By the weekend, it had a yellow blister extending off of it.
I didn't think it was that bad, but MH insisted we take him to a walk-in clinic b/c our pedi is closed on weekends. So after traveling all over NJ for a clinic that takes kids under 18 months old, we went to a place by MH's sister's house & he's diagnosed with impetigo, which is a bacterial infection, & is given ointment.
He also had a fever of 100 at the clinic, and then 102+ the next day. It has come down since then, but he's barely been eating, totally cranky, and sleeping like crap.
The scabbing still spread, so we took him back to the pedi this past Tuesday. Pedi says it can either be impetigo, or hand/foot/mouth, or possibly a reaction to the Chicken Pox vaccine (which he got a week earlier). She saw like 2 lesions in his mouth, but nothing too crazy. She said to just continue with the cream & call her today to let her know how he's doing.
Today I tell her I noticed from yesterday that he had red bumps on the tip of his tongue. She said that confirmed it was HFM. oy.
So we just have to continue with the cream & wait it out. I feel so bad for DS though b/c the lesions in his mouth must be causing him pain while eating. He will eat like a piece of cracker & then cry. And he won't let me brush his teeth.
The superficial part of me is just hoping it all clears up by Easter. Right now he is sorta looking like the joker b/c the scabbing extends out from the corner of his mouth. Poor little man.
Sorry for another long-winded post! I gave you all cookies, but I ate them, sorry.
Re: did I mention DS has hand, foot & mouth?
Aw, man, that sucks!
I'm totally the same way about germs. I don't want to be 'that' mom. Usually if I'm really worried about it I just pick Jack up and act like I just wanted to snuggle him, without saying anything about germs.
I hope it clears up soon, it must be miserable trying to eat with sores in his mouth.
Oh, poor LO=( I really hope it goes away soon. *healthy vibes*
Griff had HFMD a while ago and man it was terrible. Then I freaking got it and then DH got it. This disease just would not go away!! I really really really hope you don't get it!!
Oh, I'm so sorry! You need a break!
Did you by any chance end up at First Care here in Verona? I'm 90% sure they take babies on the weekends. (It's close to that restaurant in Montclair we met at)
oh man! I think I remember now that you mention it. omg, I really hope I don't get it! My hands are cracked & bleeding from washing them so frequently! And I have to keep remembering not to share my utensils, etc with him.
No, but good to know of another place if we need it! That's not too far.
First we took him to our CVS to see if the pharmacist could rec an OTC for it. She sent us to another CVS across town with a Minute Clinic. We get there to find out they can't see him b/c he's under 18 months. That nurse called like 5 other clinics for us & none would see him. We ended up saying f*ck it & we headed down to Manalapan to visit his sister as we had planned to that day. Turns out she has a place near her & we called & they were able to see him. Except they didn't take our insurance so we had to pay out of pocket. lol. It was quite a day.
Here Bosha, just for future reference

They take all major insurance too, so bonus!
