Formula Eaters...Milk intake??

Hey ladies have you guys noticed a change in the amount of bottle your feeding LO recently? It seems as if Rylee is not wanting to drink all of her bottle and sometimes she doesnt even want it on schedule. I know your suppose to start cutting back on there bottle intake once you start feeding them "food' but it seems like she just isnt wanting it at all. If I do "make" her eat it 9/10 she spits it up. Any suggestions?? Could she be trying to back away from the bottle already??

TIA

Re: Formula Eaters...Milk intake??

  • For the last few weeks my DD was refusing to eat period. I had the hardest time trying to get formula in her. Now we have compromised with only 3 bottles a day and she does much better with them. I think before she just wasn't hungry and was making the transition into more solids= less formula. She still gets anywhere between 15-25 oz. a day and eats about 3 solid meals (one of those being breakfast and she doesn't eat very much.) It could be your LO is making the transition to less formula too, try to switch up her "schedule" and see what happens!

  • I've been reading about this and it seems like they take in less at around 9 months.  For BM, the average is 16-20oz at 9 months, and at 1 year, it drops to 12-16oz.  I don't know what it is for formula, but the 9 month part is applicable.  I didn't know that about 9 months, I thought it would stay the same amount through 1 year.

  • Here'd Dylan's scedule:

Morning pablum and 4 oz formula bottle

Lunch veg and fruit bowls with 4 oz bottle

mid afternoon meat and fruit bowls with 4 oz bottle

dinner pablum and 4 oz bottle

Right before bed 7 oz bottle

I asked my doctor about formula intake and she said what I'm feeding him is great. Formula feeding varies so much, it depends on size of baby and what else they're eating. If they're 100% on solids then getting anywhere between 16-20oz per day

From what I read it is pretty much the same.

It is funny too, because last week there was a similar post on this issue and it was right after I got my weekly TB email saying 8-9 months need to start dropping down to 16-24oz of formula and I was like "what????" Indifferent  Then, a couple days later DD just stopped drinking all of her 8oz bottle, I'd say she averages a 7oz bottle now, and only wants 3.5 bottles.  I do give her water is sippy cups during meal times.  So, she automatically dropped down to 24oz on her own.

  • DS eats every 4-5 hours, I offer him 7 oz bottles and he usually finishes them, sometimes leaving an ounce.

He is eating 3 meals a day purees and table food.  We are trying to offer more table food to start a transition.

  • DD is sick right now and I was blaming that forgery lower milk intake...about 15-21oz..I guess its normal at this age? I even started giving her a bit less solids but its the same. I have pedi appt tomorrow so ill have to ask.

  • Alexa went from about 35oz a day to maybe 20oz a day a few weeks ago. Now she's back up to 25-30oz I think but it really depends on the day. Some days it's still a struggle to get anything in her!
