Poll: What's Next?

What do you see on the horizon as your "next big thing"?

Re: Poll: What's Next?

  • For me not so much...for my family lots

DW graduates in May and will fingers crossed be employed come this spring/summer.  This will be huge for our finances but also for all of our sanity.

DD is starting pre-school in the fall.  I can not wait for her to dive into this new experience.  I think she will get so much out of it.  Now if I can just get her potty trained for it.

Hopefully sometime in 2013 we will be starting our journey towards a 2nd child and by the end of 2013 beginning of 2014 we will have a new baby making us a family of four.

I must say I can not wait!!!!!!!!!

  • In some ways I feel like our "next big thing" ended with the kids. Like it was the last huge milestone. I know this isn't true - but b/c it is all encompassing it sometimes feels like it.

May 2013 - L finishes her PhD. (God help me if she doesn't finish then.) It will change our lives in that it won't be hanging over our heads any longer and L will be around on the weekends.

No time line - I am hoping that once L completes 18m post PhD at her current employer (b/c of tuition reimbursement agreements) she will start looking for a job closer to home or outside this area. That will be somewhere around 2015 and the kids will be in 3rd grade and we need to figure out if we want to stay in this area or move elsewhere. Who knows what we'll decide.

  • We have lots of big things, and frankly I'm embarrassed to post bc my life is so different than most of you....

    1. DW gets her masters in September

    2. Buy a home ( depending on where Julie is working)

    3. Decide if another big move is in the works for us...see #2

    4. Finish getting my LPN, and decide if I want a further degree!

    5. Travel to Europe.

    6. PPC/TTC 2016/17. (I'll be 27 and DW 30, it may be time then but we will see)

  • K will have her doctorate in T - 49 days.  Woo-hoo!! We will officially be Dr. and Mrs. - lol! You bet your sweet azz I'm using that title too, I've earned it :-)

Depending on her job we will either stay here for another 2-3 years or will look at DC or CA.

I may eventually look at going back to school but I can't even think about that until after K's schooling is finished.

  • Any day now...getting this house to close and getting keys. It was supposed to be done yesterday. But some idiot at the selling bank has put things to higher ups and now I probably won't hear anything until next week. Really just sign the dang papers already, everyone else has!

April: packing and moving. My first solo home purchase and dream come true.

May: vacation in Cancun with my girlfriend... it will be my first weeklong trip without E.

Fall: E will start 1st grade at the public school. My baby is growing up!

After all that...who knows??? The girl and I are falling hard and trying to take it slow. We'll see how that works out...my very conservative bff predicts big things to come. Wink

  • April 10th - The hearing that *should* decide Owl and Apple's living situation, if they stay with us than we will be considered the concurrent plan.

June 1st - We will apply for de facto parent status so we can have some say in court for the girls.

I know their mom is going to appeal TPR and take it to trial but we hope to adopt the girls if they stay with us, who knows if/when that will be, I am being optomistic here.

school, moving/home buying, travel, TTC - sounds like you have a lot in common with everyone here. And even if you didnt, you have nothing to be embarrassed about!

  • Kids and or Babies!  When? Who knows.  Our social worker left a message yesterday saying our background checks should be back within the week, and at that time she'll set a time to do our first home visit.  I'm so excited and nervous!  Also just waiting to hear from the RE to see what the plan is.  Waiting...

Meanwhile- K's on the corporate ladder.  Her boss seems to think she can get promoted this summer.  I think that's optimistic, but I hope they prove me wrong!  When she gets to that next level, I'll go down to PT (mainly for insurance) and have more time to take care of the home/family stuff.  I cannot WAIT!

  • Do babies have karma even in utero?  It feels like our life is shifting around as this LO gets nearer to being born.

    Probably on the horizon:

    - House shopping this Summer/Fall

    - Finishing my MBA (2nd Masters) in late 2013 early 2014 (depending on the length of break I take after July)

    - EV is wanting to move on from her job, maybe an internal transfer or maybe looking for something new

    - Starting our own business (which will hopefully let me become a SAHM)

I love planning as much as I love making spontaneous decisions - this limbo land of not having a clue what's next is very maddening....

  • April - my 29th birthday, lol

Also in April, I need to be done studying for the HCS-D exam so I can start at home medical coding asap or at least when I come home from having baby.

May - DD will turn 3 on the 31st! We can't believe it!

July 1 - baby Henley (DS) is due.

Jayden was a month early, so I'm prepared for that to be sometime in June...actually, I'm kind of hoping for it to be mid to late June! Wink

After this baby, we are done. I would LOVE get my nursing degree. I've wanted to do it since before DD was born, but life happens and we took a different route. I hope I can join the ranks of you education seeking/earning ladies!

    Great post idea, BTW!

    Great topic CT.

Right this second: finding a job for me.  Hopefully this will be wrapped up in April.

Immediately after that: our first attempt at TTC.  We're both very excited and a little freaked out!

Next up: finding a permanent home in Chicago and moving at the beginning of June.  C's appointment is for two years with the option for a third year, so we'll be renting.

Same sex couple TTC with donor sperm.  I am 35 and carrying.  Endometriosis and DOR.
    AMH 0.5, AFC 5-8, FSH 7ish

IVF #1 - antagonist.  Empty follicle syndrome.  1 retrieved, 0 fertilized.
    IVF #2 - antagonist.  Ovulated early.  3 retrieved, 2 fertilized, 0 blasts

  • Next big things:

    1. The MOVE! I can't wait to be in the house. Can't. Wait.

    2. The green card.

    3. Another baby???

It's hard that I have 0 personal control over two out of those three things... And very little control over number 1 since it depends on contractor schedules. I'm too much of a control freak not to have control of things.

  • make. baby.

we truly have nothing else on the horizon.  we're both done with school forever, we're in the house we plan to stay in forever, and neither of us is planning on changing jobs anytime soon (especially not with my magical health insurance).  any other big plans (travel, major home improvements) are off the table for now because so much of our money is tied up in TTC.

    Married my wife 8/2007 ~ TTC #1 since 7/2011
    9 IUIs = 9 BFNs
IVF October 2012: 22 eggs retrieved, 17 fertilized, 5 frozen

    FET #1: 1 blast = BFP; Missed m/c discovered at 9w5d; D&E
Karyotyping: normal ~ RPL Testing: normal ~ Hysteroscopy: normal
    FET #2: 1 blast transferred 10/25; BFP 10/31!

  • May - Babies. We found out yesterday that our MFM does not want Jen to go much beyond 37 weeks, so if they are not on the scene by that date (May 4th), she will likely be induced or deliver by C-section on the 7th or 8th.

Summer (hopefully) - Second-parent adoption will go through. Nothing will change in our lives, BUT it will be an emotional relief.

Early fall (hopefully) - One of us will get a job and go back to work. This will be a bigger change for the one who stays home, since we're both used to working.

Then I would very much like to settle into a boring pattern for a while, because the last six months have been non-stop change :)

After a year of many big things, we are slowing down a bit for now.  It's lovely.

But, the next big thing has to be a move....walls are coming in with all the baby stuff.  But, that's going to require some challenging finances etc since we really still want to stay pretty close in to the city.  We shall see.

After that, it baby #2...but my body still needs some time off before we embark on that.  At almost 37 though, I probably can't take too much time.

  • I love reading everyone's replies!

This is something thats been on my mind a lot since it seems like my entire life has been working towards the next thing (school, house, marriage, kids...) and I'm not sure exactly what that will be after the adoption.

I see a #4 in the future, but dont know when.  We'd like to build our next/forever home but that won't be for quite a while (5+ years).  Maybe I'll look into getting my MBA?

Overall I think life is going to settle down a lot for us.  Focus will be on the kids' activities and schooling.  I'm going to take time to work on my weight/health. We want to start travelling more with the kids.  We've talked about doing some short-term fostering.  So maybe it wont settle down completely, but certainly more mellow than its been Wink

  • Nothing much in the short term, which seems pretty pathetic.

May:Phoebe starts daycare      Summer: way too many trials to have much fun

Next summer: next round of ttc

    Buy house

    Yes

    1. Henry and I are going to get serious about weaning as soon as DW's busy time at work winds down. (next month) I am so ready to get my body back.

    2. And then I am going to focus on MEEEE for a while :-)  (I've already started this. New clothes, more time with friends, remembering who the heck I am aside from Mommy - it feels miraculous haha)

    3. DW is also finishing her MBA this semester! HALLELUUH!

    4. For C's 30th in June, we are going to have our first overnight away from Henry. SO. EXCITED. We are ready for some grown-up fun in a big way.

  • Right now it feels like we have tons going on! Like many others here the "big things" revolve around starting and finishing various degrees and jobs and where those things may land us geographically.

July - Move from CA to Boston!

August - Start my MSW program!!

May 2014 - S graduates with her PhD and I graduate with my MSW... then we get jobs and begin the job search process which will decide where we live.

Everything past that is way too far in the future. Maybe someday in a million years buy a house. Or, more realistically, pay off our student loan debt and rent until we are 70. Maybe get a dog sister for Chessie. Maybe.

  • our kitchen remodel, which is happening SOON. like, we've finalized the design and the installer is coming this afternoon to measure to make sure everything's good before we place our cabinet order THIS WEEK soon. barring anything major that requires more redesigning they should be delivered in the next 3-4 weeks, so we'll be crazy busy with that over the next month or so.

and hopefully potty training, which he's actually showing some interest in, although I think we're still a little way away from starting. definitely not until after the kitchen is done.

and with any luck we'll have a 2012 baby, although this is our last chance for 2012 due date.
