1st Trimester

When to post on Facebook?

We are fourteen weeks today, so I guess I should be moving over to the second tri board, but we were wondering what is a good general rule about how long to wait. I have gotten a few looks from friends I haven't seen in while, I was working out of town most of last year, and I think they think I have been letting myself go. I have gained about 6 pounds and it all shows in my belly. (This is our second) My mom said we should wait until we know what we are having, but that is still 6 weeks away, I would be showing like crazy by then. What is your plan?

Re: When to post on Facebook?

  • I am mid-13 weeks and had an appointment on Tuesday confirming that everything looks good.  We'll be posting on facebook as soon as we've reached some of DH's overseas relatives that we want to tell in over the phone.  (time zone differences are so much fun!)  We started telling friends after the appointment.

There is no rule - it's whenever you feel comfortable. With S, the FB world found out I was pregnant when I posted her birth announcement and photo. That will be true again this time around. I told my family and friends around 12 weeks with S. We'll probably tell a bit sooner this time, but not that much sooner. Some people tell right away (I have a friend who posted the BFP pee stick on her FB page the day she got it). It's whatever makes you happy and what you feel comfortable with.

I will never understand the people that post a pciture of the BFP!!  To each their own, I guess.

  • My cousin is gertting married when I am 12 weeks, so to avoid stealing her thunder we will make a general announcement to the extended family and fb friends a week or so after her wedding.

  • Do it when you feel comfortable. If now is the right time for you, go ahead. If you feel more comfortable waiting, do that!

  • Most of my family and DH's family know as well as several of my friends and almost all of my coworkers (very small company).  I have my NT scan Monday morning and plan to wait until Monday evening to fill in the FB world.  I'll be 12wks 2 days at that point, so I'll feel a little less nervous putting it out there at that point.

  • I wanted to wait until we'd seen the heartbeat but didn't get around to telling my mom that, so since she was a little more excited than we expected she outed us on facebook yesterday(the day we found out) so I went ahead and told everybody.

I have a cousin who announced the night before my wedding but she 'didn't want to steal my thunder.'

I don't feel like she stole my thunder, but I also didn't say anything about it when she came up to say congratulations!

  • I always said I would not post anything on Facebook about my pregnancy or my baby ( including baby pictures).

With that said, I deactivated my account 2 months ago, and it's been great!

  • pretty much everyone in mine and my DH families know about it. i haven't made an actual announcement on fb yet but some people have been able to tell by some of my status updates. once we reach the 12 weeks mark, even though we've been told our baby is perfectly healthy, i think i will be making the general announcement. more than likely by just posting an ultrasound picture.

  • I waited until 13 wks w/DD pregnancy, but will probably just wait till 17 wks when we find out the gender this time.  One reason being, I won't tell my work until I am 16 wks, and we also suffered a m/c at 8 wks last fall, so I am extremely cautious beyond what is normal!  We won't even tell close family or friends until at least 10 wks this time around...  Was just too emotional for everyone last time, and don't want to put them through it again, God forbid we m/c again.

  • It's a personal choice of whenever you and your SO feel comfortable. I know ladies who posted immediately while others waited until they were in the second tri. And some decided to not even post anything about their pregnancy until after the baby arrived.

FI and I have decided to wait until after I'm out of the first tri and have had a couple doctors appointments. We have told close family, but they are respecting our wishes about not posting to facebook quite yet.

  • We're not sharing our announcement on facebook until we have the baby.  We've already told our parents and closest friends.  We will tell the rest of our family/friends after I reach 2nd tri.  So all of the people that are really in our lives will know.  I just couldn't bear the thought of making a facebook announcment and something happening and then I have to announce to randoms I haven't seen since high school that there's no baby.  Just our personal decision.

This is what I've done and will do again. I'm pretty private and don't like people that I'm not super close with knowing the state of my ute.

    To each their own!

  • with my first, i posted my daughters ultrasound pic at 12/13 weeks and let people do the inferring. now with my 2nd, i have far less desire to share it with my fb friends, (even though i've purged it to about 170ish friends or so). I probably will never officially announce it until i post pics of baby in november. but, surely a family member or close friend will post a pic or post that gives it away, and if that happens, whatevs. we're not telling anyone til 12 weeks anyway, so that doesn't concern me.

  • We told a few close family members & friends when we got the BFP.  At 7.5 weeks they put me on bed rest for 2 weeks for a SCH. We told a few more close friends & family members then.  Unfortunately, everyone at work also found out then. The rumor mill started. I had a moment of weakness and confirmed the pregnancy rumor with 2 coworkers who blabbed to everyone under the sun. Our next appointment is at 13 weeks. Unless the doc advises otherwise, we're going to call the last few people we want to tell ourselves then post it on FB after that appointment.
