I'm having a home birth and cannot for the life of me decide what to wear, I'm thinking a nursing tank but then wouldn't know what to wear for the bottoms as you want something with easy access, I'm not comfortable being naked (although you never know) and don't want to walk around in my underwear, so any ideas on what to wear?
Also is it unreasonable to wear shorts (pajama shorts) until i needed to take them off?
Re: Can't decide what to wear!?
I planned to wear a sports bra and a nightgown. I only ended up wearing the sports bra.
I know it sounds unbelievable, but you probably won't care. With my first everyone told me that modesty goes out the window, and I didn't believe them because I am soooo not a "naked" person. I can't change or shower in public changerooms, etc. But in labour? Did not care at all.
As some other people said, taking your clothes on and off might be a huge PITA in labour. The midwives asked me to remove my sportsbra just before the baby was born so we could do skin-to-skin and facilitate immediate breastfeeding, and I remember thinking that was the most unreasonable request in the world, not because I cared about being topless, but because I didn't feel able to coordinate my arms enough to remove the top. ETA: my husband just read this over my shoulder and told me that he removed my sportsbra because I just sat there after they asked, and didn't make any move to remove it. lol. I totally don't remember that.

With A. I labored in t-shirt and shorts I think. (Odd that I can't remember. It was only 2 weeks ago. Especially strange considering that I remember exactly what I wore for J.'s birth.) They both came off when I got in the birth pool.
And I am a modest person. Yet as I was getting in the birth pool I couldn't get things off fast enough. I wanted to be in the water and I wasn't letting something like clothes stand in the way.
I didn't even care when a family member (here to take care of J.) heard me cry out as I birthed A.'s head and then peeked her head in a few minutes later. (I knew that I needed to be super comfortable with whomever was here taking care of J.) Frankly, with A. on my chest and me in the water, she probably couldn't see much anyway. Especially with the 2 midwives and DH right around me.
I just got the Old Navy one two weeks ago and have been wearing it almost every day. I bought it in a medium to wear now and have it be loose, and a small to wear postpartum (the small fit now but was tight). I will probably wear the medium one to the hospital. Good idea! It's SO comfy.
