We're planning on using bumgenius and recently sold our house and moved into an apartment. I just had the thought, is it okay to wash my sons soiled diapers in a public washer in our apartment building like that? hmm...

This is just a suggestion but have you thought about getting your own washer? MH and I live in an apt and were using the community washer and dryer but with having the baby coming and using cloth we got a portable washing machine by Haier. It hooks up to the sink and honestly gets our clothes cleaner than the community washers do. It is smaller than a regular washer but it still holds quite a bit and our electric bill hasn't really gone up. We also dry on racks. It cost about $220 but figure it'll pay for itself in 8 months or so.
Do you have to pay for each load? That would bother me, since I do two cycles in the washer and some do 3. Otherwise, I don't see why it would be a problem, the washer is there to get things clean. You'll definitely be putting poop, pee, and spitup into the washer regardless, but hopefully it won't be there after you've run the washer!
