I've had a few previous abdominal surgeries and over the past month or so, I'm fairly certain I've developed an incisional hernia. It's not sore, thank goodness.
I mentioned it to my midwives and they had no suggestions other than asking the OB in two weeks when I go in to book my c-section. Ugh.
I'm aware of the fact that a hernia needs to be fixed surgically... and I'm thinking the OB will probably say it would be a bad idea to get pregnant again after this with a hernia and that it would be stupid to get it fixed and then get pregnant again which would likely result in a repeat hernia operation...
So, in my mind, I'm facing the decision of not having any more children and if that's the case should I just get my tubes tied during my c-section in May?
Ugh... so much to think about and so little time!
Thoughts? Experiences?
Re: Hernia + pregnancy... experiences?
I had an incisional hernia surgery right after the birth of my 2nd one. While my belly looks normal again, I would have rather had a c/s again. It took care of the cosmetic issues (looked like I had a belly nipple) , but I still have the same amount of pain for time to time.
I never asked about having a third child with the surgeon....oops!
I had an incisional hernia after my first child- I had a c-section the first time and I guess it didn't heal right and I ended up with the hernia. I had it surgically fixed - with mesh.
When I got pregnant with my 2nd child, I told my OB. It wasn't a problem at all during my pregnancy although I was terrified the mesh wouldn't hold - but it did. Since I had to have a c-section the first time, my OB did a c-section again. The night before my c-section, he spoke to the doctor who did my hernia operation so he knew exactly what was done to repair the hernia and where the mesh was located- that way he could avoid hitting it and causing potential complications. Everything went smoothly and I had no problems since (almost 2 years since dd was born).
Having a hernia doesn't mean you can't have more kids. It is something to tell your OB about when you get pregnant - and of course anything can happen in a pregnancy, but plenty of women have hernias and then go on to have kids.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
Phew. This is all very reassuring.
We're pretty sure we're done at two, so that's probably why I'm jumping to the tubal option so quickly.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
