Baby Names

Nella?

Thoughts on Nella? Is it too similar to Eva (DD#1)? Girl names are difficult! ;)

Re: Nella?

  • I think it's cute. I don't think it's too similar. They have the same ending sound, but it's not like they rhyme or start with the same letter (which IMO I'd avoid - too cutesy).

  • Very cute name and I don't think it's matchy with Eva at all.

  •  I don't think it's too matchy with Eva but I think of it as more of a nn (in which case I really like it)

  • I'd prefer Nell or Nellie.  Nella reminds me of a pizza chain around here called Nello's.

  • Nella sounds like a nn for Daniella to me. Nell is ok, though, even though it reminds me of The Facts of Life.

  • I think Nella is cute as a nickname but not as a formal first name.  Personally, I just don't see it as a good name to have in a professional environment as an adult.

  • I have only heard this as a nickname/sort form of another name. I wouldn't use it.
  • I just came across this name recently, too. I like it a lot, but I think it might get lumped in with all the other Ella/Elle/Belle/Bella names that are so popular lately.

  • I like Nella.  I also think it could be a good NN for Daniella, Penelope, etc.

    I also like Nessa.

I agree. It would be a great nickname for Cornelia or Penelope.

  • Ha ha. I agree with two of the PPs. It reminds me of Nutella AND Nilla Wafers. Wth?! lol

I think it sounds too much like a nn for a first name.

I agree, girls names are hard! I really like Nella. I think it is good as a first name or nickname. She could always go by Nell later in life if she wanted.

  • I am familiar with this name from a blog that I read (kellehampton.com). It does kind of sound like a nickname and it does remind me of "nilla wafers" but I kind of like it. Probably because I've been following this blog for a couple years now so I now associate it with the beautiful little girl from the blog (you have to read her birth story and I bet you will love the name even more). Her full name is Nella Cordelia and her older sister is named Lainey (not short for anything) so I guess the parents don't mind "nickname sounding" names. Anyway, I'm rambling but I think the name is refreshing and sounds old fashioned, which I love. I also think it sounds great with Eva as a sib-set.
