I am not a pain med junkie but I am concerned about not getting pain meds for recovery. I have a low pain tolerance and my last C section was infected and it took me 2.5 months to heal. I was told by 2 people that they only got sent home with Ibuprophen. This is a different Dr then my last and they are hardcore NO sympathy Drs. Anyone else get sent home with this only?
Re: Told my Dr only gives Ibuprophen for C section..
I was sent home with Percocet and Ibuprofen. I think it's odd that they wouldn't sent you home with something stronger if you needed it.
I had an internal infection after my c/s and after getting out of the hospital from that they gave me another prescription for both Percocet and Ibuprofen, I was swimming in pain meds. I hope they give you what you need!!

I had my baby in Germany, where the norm is no narcotics. I was not offered any post op, just paracetamol (tylenol) and ibuprophen.
The first three days or so were tough at night, it would have been nice to have a narcotic then, but after that ibuprophen was ok.

I am strongly considering switching. I want meds!
I was given percs and a high dose motrin while I was in the hospital. Even sent home w/ refillable scripts for both.
You'll be having surgery and you'll need something stronger than ibuprophen!
That sounds ridiculous, and I have a hard time believing it's true. Who told you that? Unless it came from the doctor or his nurse, I'd strongly suggest discussing it with them before jumping ship.
I went home with percocet and Ibuprofin. I didn't take as much of the perc. as indicated, but it did help take the edge off when I felt pain.

No offense, but why are they your doctors? Isn't the first rule of medicine "First, do no harm"? Having a patient in pain isn't cool at all.
I would ask them directly about it, tell them your concerns, and then switch if they aren't willing to take your needs into consideration. You hired them to do a job, and you can fire them if they aren't being helpful. hth
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
My OB's exact words were "It would be cruel and unusual punishment to send you home without anything". I had a prescription for vicodin and they told me I could just buy Motrin OTC and take more than what the package suggested. The nurse even wrote out what she thought would be a good schedule for my first day home.
Having said that, I had an easy recovery and I hardly took any of the vicodin...just one at night for the first few nights. The Motrin did the trick the rest of the time.
This. They did give me percocet, but I never took it after the first one. It just made me loopy. I also only had ibuprofen in my IV in the hospital. It was a megadose, but still just ibuprofen.
Me too!
