Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What do you do with LO when you shower?

We have been using like a bouncy seat thing since DS was about 6months. It has worked great. He has to be contained or he will put something in his mouth or climb off/ jump off of something. But now he is 17 mos and is really too big for the seat. Yesterday I saw him almost tip the whole thing over trying to get a toy that he dropped off the floor.

Re: What do you do with LO when you shower?

  • I shower while he naps or at night after he has gone to sleep. That way I can take my time and have a few minutes to relax without worrying about what he's doing.

  • I get up early and shower before DD gets up even on the weekends.

  • I shower while she naps, or my little peanut will still chill in her jumperoo near the doorway so i can take a quick one.

  • I try to shower during naps but that is not always possible.  If  I need to shower while she is awake, I'll shut the door to our bedroom, and shower in the master bathroom.  It usually doesn't take me more than 5 minutes, and our house is pretty babyproof.  She'll jump on the dog bed or peek in at me.

  • When its just one parent at home and C is awake, C takes a shower too.

  • I usually shower before he gets up in the morning or if I run in the morning, I'll shower while he naps in the afternoon. If I have to, I'll also either put him in his crib or PNP with some toys while I take a quick shower.
  • Either he's napping, or DH is around to watch. One morning he was up at 5:45am and was screaming in his crib and I still needed to shower for work (DH sleeps until about 6:45). I brought him into the bathroom (kid proof) and we played with the shower curtain off and on, or I talked to him. Obviously won't really be an option as he gets much older, but it worked in a pinch.

  • If I don't shower while he's sleeping then I put him in his crib and try to be fast. He just sits in there and plays. DS1 just watches cartoons in my room if he is home and awake.

Same here. If I absolutely have to shower while he's awake, then he stays in the bathroom with a bunch of toys and a snack while I hurry.

  • I try to shower before they get up, but that's really early. So if not, I will put a movie on for the kids and shower then. They are actually pretty trustworthy, as far as toddlers/preschoolers go. If they need me, they will come upstairs and get me.

  • I either shower before she gets up.  On the off chance that she gets up first I shower really fast while she plays in my room.  She usually stands right outside the curtain and I talk to her.

  • If DH is home, he takes him, sometimes he's still asleep but otherwise, since our bathroom is right across the hall from his bedroom, I put him in his room with his toys, baby gate across the door and shower with the bathroom door open so we can "chat" while I'm showering.

I was trying to use his jumperoo but had the same problem with him almost tipping himself out of it and had to change stragegies.

  • I usually shower in the evening after I put LO to bed as right now I am a single parent. When H was around he typically watched DS and vice versa when we each showered.

I'm actually surprised you put a 17 month old in a bouncy seat and would expect them to stay there. My son would go nuts if I tried to do that.

  • She plays in the bathroom while I shower. There isn't anything that can hurt her.
  • Since DD gets up around the same time as me, and goes to bed kinda late, I don't have much choice but to bring her in the bathroom with me.  I just shut the door tight to keep her in, and give her a bunch of toys.  But most of the time, she is peeking at me around the shower curtain, getting her head and face soaked lol.

  • On weekdays I try to get ready before DD's up. If she wakes up early though I just let her play in her crib for 10-20 minutes. She's perfectly content. On weekends I try to shower while DH is home. Otherwise I let her play in our bedroom/ensuite. Usually that means she pulls up on the tub and pulls the shower curtain open. Brrr.

  • I usually end up showering during nap time. I really indulge on the days DH is actually home in the morning and I can take a relaxing shower all by myself without worrying about her waking up.

  • I either lock her in the bathroom with me or she showers with me.

Lately I've tried giving her the roam of the downstairs while I shower. She brought a bunch of toys into the bathroom and sat on the floor and waited for me.

  • I usually just put Ds in with me, aka he strips down while I shower and jumps in. Sometimes I get to shower alone, sometimes I just take one at night to make it easier. Dd plays on the floor in our bedroom while I shower.  Dh is in the Coast Guard, so its just the kids and I half the week. So I have to get crafty, lol.

  • I shower when DD's in the crib. On a good day, I wake up before her and can grab a nice shower and get ready before she wakes (well, usually, she wakes up at some point while I'm getting ready but entertains herself a little while).  If that doesn't happen, I shower when she goes down for her nap.

I had baby gear in the bathroom until she was about 10-11 months old, though.  We cycled through the bassinet, RnP, bouncy chair, exersaucer, and then jumperoo.  It worked out great, she just doesn't like being contained that long anymore.

Same here. We have a clear shower door, so I can see him and talk to him while I shower. He's got a drawer of toys in the bathroom that he can play with (the other cabinets are locked) or lately he'll sit right outside the shower door and read a book. He points to things in the book like crazy, so lately most of my shower has been me saying "that's a dog. that's a bunny. that's a horse" while washing my hair, shaving my legs, etc.

He's just used to being/playing in there. We would put him in the bouncy seat when he was a few months old while we showered until he started crawling, etc. Then he's just been in there playing around with toys for 10-ish mins while we shower.

  • L usually plays in the toy room (our third bedroom) while I shower if I'm the only one up/home.  There's a baby gate across the top of our stairs and I shut all the other doors so that he can come down the hall and see me if he wants.  He has yet to leave the toy room.

  • I can't believe you're still putting your 17 month old in a bouncy seat and he hasn't tipped it over yet.  Holy cow!

I used to put my first daughter in the high chair and wheel it in the bathroom.  I would give her cheerios on the tray.

I can't shower with #2 if she is awake.  She gets into everything!  Like a fool I sold our high chair because I was sick of cleaning it.  I am petrified she'll tip the chair with the booster seat. So I shower before DH leaves or after I work out at naptime.

  • I shower while he naps if I am home alone.  If we are both home I shower while DH watches him.  If none of that works...we take a bath together.

  • I get up early and shower before DS is up for the day. On weekends we sleep in and DH watches him while I shower. If I had to shower while he was awake, and DH wasn't around, he'd probably be fine playing in the bathroom for a few minutes. Everything is pretty well babyproofed.

  • Usually I shower in the morning before he is awake.

In his eyes, confinement = death since about 6 months, so no way I could shower and keep him happy at the same time. Sometimes he showers with me.

  • I shower in the evenings after he's asleep.  In the morning I wet my hair with a spray bottle and blow dry it out.  Easy-peasy.

  • My Ds is always awake when I shower. i always shower first thin when I wake up, no exceptions. It has been that wau since forever. So with this in mind DS just runs around the house. everything is babyproofed, doors are locked and nobody would ever get psat our lab if they somehow got in. I usually put cartoons on in his playroom which is right next to the bathroom and he hangs in there and chances the cat up and down the hallway, everyday lol

  • I shower before they wake up or if I don't care about being a grub for the morning, I wait until nap time.
