Prices at Consignment Sales?

Hi, all!

The post below at consignment sales got me excited to go!  What kinds of prices can I expect?  I'm interested mainly in Carter's clothes, maybe Gymboree, in 12-18 month sizes.  Maybe some toys.  I LOVE yard sales and the "$1 a piece" policy for clothes that I found at a lot of them last summer... But to be honest, I've been at some CONSIGNMENT shops where the prices are more like $3 a set or even $7-$10 for stuff that has tags on it... I think that's a LOT...

So what do you pay at consignment sales?  How big were the ones that you went to?  Is there a good selection?  I'm excited...

I just went to my first one two weeks ago held in the gym of a community college, and one long side of it was clothes and shoes.  Nearly everything I got was $2-5 ($2 was the minimum they could be sold for), sometimes multiple items for that range, like several onesies or a shirt and shorts.  Many of the items I got were Carters, as well as some Old Navy, Baby Gap, Children's Place, etc.  I was able to pick up most of what I need for the summer in both 6-9m and 9-12, including swim wear and hats.  There was a pretty good selection, and it was definitely worthwhile.

I like the big consignment sales better than going to the stores.  The sale that's around here is twice a year, for a weekend.  On the last day, everything goes to half price, so I go then.  We got a beautiful silk dress for LO last time for $8.  Sheets were 50 cents.  PJs were pretty good prices.  I think most of the stuff was under $10.  We spent $70 total.

Consignment sales and shops are def. more expensive than yard sales. But, generally the quality is better. The cons. places make sure all of the toys work, nothing has been recalled, clothes don't have stains, etc. You also have a much bigger selection and it's easier to find what you need.

I have seen Gymboree clothes for as much as $10 at cons. sales. I don't typically spend that much unless it's new and I really like it. Typically I'll go for the lower priced things in the $2 - $5 range. I prefer cons. sales and shops to yard sales b/c of the convenience factor and better quality.

I noticed you were from Mass too. Did you see the webpage that has all the consignment sales listed on a calendar. I think if you google consignment sales in Mass. the site will come up.

Yes!  Good list. I have found some of the sales to be more expensive than others. I am planning to go to one at the end of April near me. I wonder if I'll "see" some of you there. :)

I am going to one at the end of April.

What is everyone planning on getting for the spring/summer?  I am stumped as to what to get besides clothes.

I think it depends where the sale is. Churches tend to have nicer clothes and will be pricier. The ones I went to were at the auditorium and an old grocery store. The prices range from $1-$15.. Make sure to find out if they have half price days, as most of them do. The ones that are open for a weekend will go half price the last day and the ones that are month long with do half price the last week, typically. That's the time to go! I racked up! Make sure to look for stains and holes too, as some of the consignment sales don't check the clothes behind the consignor.

I'm planning to go to this one in Needham in April.  I went to it last year when I was PG but didn't know what I was having so I didn't buy much, but they had tons of toys and I got some great books.
