My mom has been warning me about stupid leg cramps from the day we told her I was pregnant. In my head I was like yeah right... but low and behold... this week has been hell with the stupid leg cramps. In the middle of the night I get these intense cramps in the back of my calves. I never had a leg cramp like this before in my life! My husband tells me I need to eat bananas for potasium... Does anyone know if this works? Any other remedies?
Re: Holy Cow... Leg cramps in the middle of the night?
I started getting crazy leg cramps too since the last two weeks. I eat a banana everyday and drink loads of water. And I make sure I walk at least half hour if not more each day, but I still get them most night
I asked my friend who just delivered in December and she said its a pregnancy thing. We can't do much...

Someone just posted about this yesterday
this is what helped me... but I also heard mustard helps a lot...
I have not tried it b/c I can't stand mustard, but it could be worth a shot if you don't mind it...
I get them once in a while, but I take TUMS after I get them and they dont seem to recur as often. I was told it has to do with the lack of calcium, not positive on that, but the TUMS do seem to help with them recurring less often.
Also, I get the leg cramps in the back of my leg, and I've found they go away when I lift my toe toward my knee. Hope this helps.
I've been dealing with Restless Leg Syndrome for what seems like this while pregnancy. I talked to a friend who just delivered on Saturday and she said the thing that helped her the MOST was coconut water. It has a lot of potassium and magnesium in it. My doc also suggested magnesium so I've been taking two pills a day as well.
But, call me crazy, my legs were hurting SO bad the other night I just started Googling and came across an old wives tale of putting a bar of soap by your legs and somehow it wards off the cramps. I tried it and it actually worked a couple of nights but didn't work last night. H says it's psychological. I don't care! If it stops the leg cramps I'll sleep with ten bars of soap. And plus, it makes my feet smell good.
Mine started this past week. Like you I too never ever had them before in my life either! Its the back of my calves too. I usually get them worse at night and sometimes in the morning they will still be hurting. It's funny because my last OB visit they asked me if I had any leg cramps and I was like nope .. and then all the sudden they show up! I never had them in my other pregnancies. This is new for me! I have no idea when to do for them. I did take tylenol and benedryl last night to help with the pain from my legs and my belly with its braxton hicks.. and help me sleep!
If you find something that works let me know too! I was thinking about trying my heating pad on them later if they kept hurting.
