Trying to Get Pregnant

NEW TO THE BUMP!!! QUESTION ABOUT OPKs

HI everyone!

My husband and I are just beginning ttc! (3 months) I have been waiting for this for so long! I have been ready for years, where as my husband just jumped on board! We have been married for 4 1/2 years together for 12! I am on fertility friend and have a few questions about OPKs. I thought that I was definitely going to get preggers last month because I used the OPK and we BD on the days when my surge was high, but no such luck...were we supposed to BD before the surge showed on the OPK? after the surge? I thought that the surge meant that those were the days you were more likely to conceive? I just wanted to make sure that I am using the OPK correctly. So I know if i should buy another one. I know that it can take time to conceive and the average is up to 6 months...its just hard when your excited about it!

Thanks!

Re: NEW TO THE BUMP!!! QUESTION ABOUT OPKs

  • I would check the instructions for the brand you are using, but an OPK only tells you that your body is dearing up to O. The only way to know for sure if you did is to chart so you're on your way!

As soon as I get a positive OPK I get as much sex in as I can until I get a temp increase.

  • WHY ARE YOU YELLING??

Yes, you should have sex when you get positive OPK's. That means your body is getting ready to ovulate but doesn't mean it will definitely happen.

  • Thanks KitT.Kat! When you say charting,  you mean taking your temp each morning and tracking everything else?

Caps usually indicate yelling.  Exclamation points indicate excitement.  Just don't go over board on those.  It's hard to type emotions

  • You didn't mention your age, but a woman of 30, even with no underlying problems, only has a 20% chance of conception with each cycle, even when all factors are perfect. My DH didn't get that the first month that we tried, we got the smiley face on the OPK, and we didn't get a BFP. I made him read excerpts of TCOYF, and we watched the Great Sperm Race. Good luck!

  • Thanks! Im crossing my fingers for this month!

I'm 29 right now. My emotions are going crazy because I am excited, but also stressed because I know that even now my chances are much lower than they were even 4 years ago. I guess I need to relax! How much does being stressed relate to conceiving?

Me too, assuming there are no other conditions, this should not effect the 20% chance each month. Ladies, please correct me if I am wrong.

I will let the new board relaxing guru talk to you about relaxing.
