So I went to my MFM appointment. My little girl's fluid around her is less than 2 (they think I've been leaking fluid for a while now since my previous ultrasounds showed I had low fluid both those times too), so they sent me to L&D to be monitored and inducted per the MFM doc. I wasn't thrilled about being induced. I had one of my favorite L&D nurses and a super nice resident doctor. They talked to the MFM doc, but then they talked to the attenting OBGYN. The attending doc was against me being induced since she has more experience when it comes to delivering vs. the MFM doc. At the hospital I'm delivering at the MFM doc's only deliver babies if it's an emergency and while their opinions are valued the attending has more experience getting the outcome we all want since she has 40 years of experience, plus she's the community favorite so even the nurses are her patients. My cervix isn't favorable (1 cm dilated, but high and tight) so I would end up being induced over 2 to 3 days which the attending only saw resulting in a c-section vs.a vaginally delivery. Because I'm diabetic she would rather wait to see if there would be any change by me drinking massive amounts of fluids to see if we can get more fluid around my little girl to buy more time (already drank more than the 120 oz she wanted) and by walking (we had to drop my car off so the air conditioning can get installed. A family friend who is certified in it is going to do it for way cheap as a gift, but they lived 2 hours away) to see if my cervix will become more favorable and possibly go into labor all on my own. So I was sent home. I also have a history of ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic pupura) which is a bleeding disorder where it causes abnormal and excessive bruising. I did have little bruises from being itchy. The attending has seen it in pregnant women who have had low amniotic fluid levels, so I had blood work done to check, but I won't know until tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have a NST and if it's not the same as today's NST where my little girl looked perfect, then we will start the induction process with Cervadil and try Pitocin after I'm dilated enough.
Type 1 diabetics are pretty rare in my area when it comes to pregnancy, so I'm being handled extremely well and cautiously. My doctors want me to have a vaginal delivery vs. a c-section just because the risks of a c-section out weigh the risks of a vaginal delivery. Either way the attending OBGYN said I will be having my little girl by Friday. I just hope it's the attending or my OBGYN delivering because I love my OBGYN and the attending for how common sense they are! So I will update here tomorrow after my appointment!
Re: And we're talking induction by the end of the week...(Type 1 DM)
Thank you! So far on the NST she good great, but not as awesome as previously, so I'm supposed to try to walk around and see what happens as well as take in lots of fluids. If I have anything change I have to go to L&D for a NST, but Thursday is going to be the day we 100% decide on things. My doctor wants to see what will happen labor wise because I was contracting on the monitor but I didn't feel anything.
I'm just glad I have more time to relax at home with DH right now. I will keep updating here to keep you ladies posted!
Cycle 9: BFP 5-3-12:EDD 1-24-13 It's a girl! Born 12-27-12
Lots and lots of luck in getting what you want in the delivery! It sounds like you are in excellent hands and with a team that has their stuff together and is communicating.
Will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way
Thanks ladies! It means a lot to hear such positiveness!
I will keep you all posted! Tomorrow, if my little girl makes her appearance, is the day we decide on how it's all going to happen!
I hope things are going well for you ladies!
So I saw my OBGYN and the MFM. Pnina's fluid levels are the same. Not worse, but not better. So the doctors said as long as everything continues how it is, they are going to induce me Monday night instead.
I will get Cervadil and they are going to try to induce me with that only, but I will be given Pitocin if need be. It just depends on my cervix as to how long they take to induce me. However of course if Pnina has fetal distress a c-section it shall be.
Right now I'm 1cm dilated and 50% effaced and I'm not longer at -3 station, so things are looking good for Monday.
Here I thought she would be a March baby, but she's going for April!
