New Deck

I know the answer can total vary but general ball park figure on a new deck - nothing fancy, just a basic deck made of the nice material that you don't need to do a think to?  I need to do some research but we really need to redo our deck this summer and just trying to see if we can swing it.  (Trex is the material I am thinking about for the deck).

Re: New Deck

  • Our deck is falling apart & we want to go with Trex as well. We did our front porch last year with new trex boards, trex railings, & posts. We went with the higher end stuff - Trex Transcend. It looks awesome & will last forever with no maintenance. But it was expensive - $4000 I think for the whole thing. We are guestimating $10 - 15k to do the back deck ourselves, which is not overly large or complicated.

We replaced ours last fall using Trex for about 4k.  I think it is 12x16 with 12 risers. It was 20 yrs old but the most the wood joyces were in good condition and only 2 footings needed to be replaced so we were able to keep the total cost down.  We used trex for the floor surface and risers only and used cedar for the railing/posts and aluminum spindels.  My DH (no construction experience) helped a guy who does construction on the side so we saved $$$ there.  He suggested we do cedar posts and railings since in his experience they are more secure over time (longer fastening blots) vs the trex rails/post although admittedly I liked the matinence free aspect better.  I think the combo turned out better than I expected.  Its so nice to walk on our deck without fear of getting slivers!

  • My DH did a trex deck out back last year.  of course he saved a ton doing it himself (and worked a ton on it instead) but I think material when all was said and done was somewhere around 4k.  all top stuff: railings, spindles, stairs, floor is trex. foundation was wood and cement.
