Waves hello
I've been lurking for quite some time and have finally decided to post. Here goes....
Are puffs, yogurt melts, etc superior in any way to Cheerios? I feel like they're no different than baby junk food, but I see them in organic "Dr Sears recommended" brands. Is this just clever marketing or am I missing some kind of nutritional value? I don't want my kid to be the deprived baby on the playground
Thanks!

If you do Cheerios, make sure you buy the original kind (yellow box) not any of the other flavors. The flavored ones (even the multi-grain) have a lot of sugar, but the original ones aren't too bad. Nutritionally, they're pretty similar to puffs (and in fact, you have to watch those too, some brands have more sugar than others).
We weren't originally planning on doing any cereals or puffs, but DS was really having a very hard time mastering self-feeding with solid foods, and the pedi suggested cheerios or puffs. They really did seem to help with his coordination and chewing when he was first getting started.
If you're doing fine without them, there's no need to rush out and buy. But if you're looking for something convenient and easy for LO to eat, then all things in moderation. As part of a balanced diet, I don't think they're the devil or anything.
We've done some Cheerios, but haven't bought any puffs or anything yet. It's funny b/c I didn't want to buy anything that says "For 9+months" on the package...but um, I feed my baby steak and no purees, lol. Yeah. Anyway...Cheerios have really helped his pincher grab coordination
This!
Puffs creep me out, in all honesty. DS1 ate a LOT of cheerios when he first started eating, and we did buy them from DS2 for awhile, but he's moved on to other foods, so we've stopped again. Not that Cheerios are some sort of hippie food that grows on trees, but I think a basic wheat-based product is a bit better than freeze-dried yogurt snacks.
