Any tips for safely bed sharing with a crawler? DD has no fear and has come way too close to launching herself off the edge of the bed when we're half asleep/asleep. We are trying to avoid dropping the mattress to the floor if possible but I can't think of how else to do it. Are guard rails tall enough she wouldn't climb over them easily?
Re: Crawling and bed sharing
DS could crawl over the rail, but he hasn't. Once he's up, he usually chooses to crawl over me instead and then I'm up.
I do feel better with the rail.

We started DS on a mattress on the floor in his room for naps and the first nightime stretch before we're in bed. He took well to it, so we still do it. But, he now knows how to scale the side of the bed on his tummy. We started working on that with him at 10 months, but he was too short to make it anything less than a big, jarring drop. Now, he can do it quite well.

We are also working on him getting safely out of bed. That stops him rolling out by accident, but it won't stop him crawling over.

Depends on exactly how adventerous your DD is!
With my DD, a bedrail was enough. With my DS, it was not and we had to go to a floor mattress. He didn't crawl over the bedrail though, he'd just go around it.
We use a bedrail with DD and it's worked perfect for us. Here's the one we have--

When did you transition to a big bed?
We added a boxspring when he turned two. He's now two and a half and we are going to add a bed frame, headboard, footboard.
