We're done with our family-building and I'm trying to decide between the Paragard (copper) IUD and the Mirena (hormonal) IUD. Anyone with any experience they'd like to share?
IVF w/ ICSI #2 - fraternal twins born December 2010 at 36 weeks.
I had the mirena inseted at my 8 week appt. I spent the next year having my period every 3 weeks, not like my doc and I expected. In Nov., I went on 3 months of oral b.c. while still on Mirena. Worked like a charm, and now I am happy with it. My periods are about 2 days long. There are a lot of different ones, so good luck!

I've got Mirena #2 in now. #1 was in for 7 years and successfully prevented not only pregnancy but also PMS and periods completely. I had absolutely NO side efffects from it, it was awesome. I had #2 put in just after my 6 week PP check up. I had one very light period after that and the month after that I had a little PMS (just cranky enough to think I was going to get a period) and now nothing. I'm EBF but suspect I would still have a period despite that. I'm glad not to have a period.
I also know that with the Mirena, I can have it removed and start TTCing the following month (especially important for me because of my age and time factor)
