Art Master or Deluxe Art Master Activity Desk for 5yo?

Anyone have a Step 2 Art Master Activity Desk or Deluxe Art Master Activity Desk?  The first comes with a stool and the second with a chair (links for each below).  I want something for DS1's room where he can go upstairs and color and not be bothered by a baby brother eating his crayons =)  I am leaning towards getting the first since it is a little smaller of a footprint and has a stool, but I'm not sure if the second would be better.  I haven't seen either in person.  Anyone have input?

  • Those are both pretty fancy and sort of awesome, but if you anticipate a time when the kids will sit together at an art table, I'd go with something that can have a few chairs pulled up to it.  You could put an art-supplies organizer in the center of the table.

The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.

  • I think they are both pretty small and he may grow out of it quickly since he's almost 6.  I think they are ideal for 3-4 year olds.  Maybe looking into a more traditional children's desk?
  • Thanks for the advice!  We bought the one with the stool.  When DS1 outgrows it, I will get him a more traditional desk and give it to DS2 and/or DS3.

We have a kids' table we could put an art-supplies-organizer on eventually, but DS2 isn't even 2 yet and randomly tries to eat crayons and paint and loves to dump out anything in a bin more than he likes playing with the things in the bin =)  So DS1 hasn't had the access to crayons/markers/scissors/paper that he should (at his age)... so for now he needs something in his room he can go and use when he wants.
