Ok, I hope this isn't a totally dumb question. I've had my IUD (Mirena) since July and I am BFing. I haven't gotten a period. I know it is common to not get one with an IUD or while BFing. (I'm hoping I won't have one the whole time I have it!) But, there is still a teeny, tiny chance one could get pregnant, and if you are pg with an IUD it can cause problems, so I wonder if I should POAS every few months to be sure? Or would you only test if you felt different or had symptoms?
Re: IUD ladies--do you POAS occasionally?
I'm curious to see your answers...
I've always wondered this about the Depo shot as well.
I always joked with my friend that she'd be 3 months along before she found out

This. The chance of getting pregnant on one is low to begin with, not counting that you are BFing also. I had mine for 3 years the first time. There were two time during that whole time I tested but only because I felt different.
Nope. I don't now, and I didn't with my first one I had for two years before ttc. For one, a period you get on any type of bc is not a real period. It does not come because you have a regular cycle where ovulation occurs. The "periods" you get on bc are not medically necessary and are really only there to make women feel better about not being pregnant, imo. However, having bleeding while on bc is not necessarily an indicator.
So long as your mirena is placed properly and you are well within your expiration date, you should not get pregnant.
FYI...the information above I remember learning in my sex ed class in college. Feel free to not take my word (and memory) and Google it. I won't be offended. lol
That def. applies with the pill, but I'm not sure about w/an IUD.

I haven't. I'm also one who only POAS once with J (and then in the cup at the OB's office at their request)
Then again, maybe if we were doing anything that could cause me to be pregnant, I Might be more likely to test...
Unlike other IUD's Mirena is both a hormonal birth control and an IUD, at least according to my OB. I am not sure if the level of hormones are equivalent to the pill or patch, but they are there.
