dreading my future food bill

So we had beef fajitas for dinner.   Before adding the seasoning. I pulled a big spoonful of meat and peppers off to the side(the seasoning had salt in it so I didn't want to give it to A).   I also made cilantro lime rice.   Well, he gobbled down all of his meat and peppers(about 2 oz worth), 2 big spoonfuls of rice, cheese(I cut about a 2 x 2 inch piece from the block of cheese and cut it into small cubes), and 3 tablespoons of kidney beans!   Oh and almost an entire tortilla.   We gave him the tortilla whole.   Everything else, we just cut into small pieces and threw them on the tray.    And then he chased it down with a 6 oz bottle.

My older guy ate 2 rice, bean, and cheese burritos(he didn't like the meat)

My food bill is going be insane when they are teenagers!!!!    We already get charged for a kid's meal at the all you can eat sushi place we like to go to...it's not a buffet.   You get menus and check off what you want and then they bring it to you.   Kids under 5 are supposed to be free but he eats so much, they charge us for a kid's meal!   Last time he had 5 pieces of salmon sashimi, 4 tuna sushi, a bowl of udon noodle soup, a serving of seaweed salad, and most of an order of tofu(he ate 3...there are 4 pieces in an order).   Plus the baby had the last piece of tufu and 4 pieces of avacodo mango roll!!!!   So they had to charge us for a kid's meal!

Re: dreading my future food bill

  • that's great that your boys are such good eaters and that they like a wide variety of foods!  hopefully you're right and they keep it up into their teens.

  • I was thinking the same thing this past weekend.  Saturday my H was making pancakes and I was feeding DS.  As fast as H was flipping the pancakes on the plate, DS was downing them.

He ate 3 regular-sized pancakes, a banana, 1/2 a peach and some yogurt for breakfast.  Then for lunch that day he had some diced squash, rigatoni, and chicken strips and yogurt melts and cookies.  Later for dinner he ate a slice of toast smeared with hummus, roasted carrots and zucchini, an apple, and a cheese stick.

He grunts and screeches at me until I give him more food!  The kid loves to eat...but he comes by it honestly.

  • Whenever I think of my future food bill, I think of my first job at a supermarket. I had a coworker who was about my age, and a big football player. He had 2 brothers, of similar size. His mom came in to do the shopping one day and she had a ton of stuff, including 3 gallons of milk. Now my family had two girls in it, and we only went through 1 gallon of milk a week. So I said something later about how much milk his mom bought, and he was like, "oh yeah, and she always stops by on Wednesdays for 2 more gallons."

So now I have Isaac, who is pretty big for his age, and I'm just convinced that when we have a second it'll be a boy, and I just don't know where we're going to fit all that milk in the fridge. Big Smile

  • The differences between boys and girls is AMAZING!  I know my boys are older, but even when they were younger they ate more food.  I laughed when you said "they charged us for a kids meal" because we go to Friendly's often and the girls will split one kids meal (they are 3 1/2 and 2) and the boys each have their own, and they have been since they were 2!  I think my littlest on will probably get his own meal before the girls do!
