XP: Leaving your baby. Do they cry?

I don't leave my son with a sitter very often at all but this past Sunday we left him for a bit to go see a movie. He was super happy to see us when we got home but there wasn't even an ounce of upset when we left. Not that I want him to be upset but he has been showing other aspects of anxiety (clingy, strangers etc) so I was expecting it. Then, I must admit, I felt a bit hurt that he didn't seem to care (so silly). Does this typically come a bit later? Do some kids just never do this? How do your LO's react when leaving them with a sitter or daycare?

  • LO has JUST started showing some separation issues lately when I drop him off to daycare, but then today, he was fine. Go figure!

  • We went through that phase for a little bit - I would set her down and she would try to cling to me, and then would cry.  Or if she saw one of us, and watched us leave the room....immediate cry.

Lately though when I drop her off at daycare, the teacher will hold her and I will say "bye bye!" and wave, and she will smile and wave back.  It makes drop off sooo much better.

  • Sometimes. More when I leave the room and there's nothing else going on (like if I have to leave her in the PnP or crib to tend to something else). Daycare has never been an issue (for her).

  • LO has absolutely no separation anxiety. he has been around tons of people since birth though, i have a huge family & we bring around family friends a lot & he gets passed around to be held by different people all the time.  When i drop him off in the mornings, he will actually smile at me & wave bye. lol

  • Audrey was fine with a sitter until about 5 months old. Ever since then I can't leave her with anyone but DH. Otherwise she screams the entire time we are gone. I really wish she would grow out of it soon.

  • She hasn't yet--unless it is someone she doesn't know AT ALL. But grandparents, uncles, etc she is fine with.

She is just starting to show preference for me to put her to bed--she gets annoyed when my husband does it so we are trying to nip that in the bud ASAP.

  • She does not cry.  She holds her arms out to be occasionally, but most of the time she's good.  She gets pisssssed when I come to pick her up and my dc provider puts her straight into her carseat.  But if we snuggle before we leave, it is worse.

  • The past couple of months, she's cried terribly when we drop her off at DC.  Today, she did really well though.  Her DC teacher took her and helped her wave bye to me as usual, and she seemed to calm herself down.  I'm hoping she's finally moving past the worst of the infant separation anxiety.
