back from pedi.. RSV

Both boys have RSV.  Sam has it worse, Max not as bad but I was told that it Max will get it just as bad in a few days.  They have Sam on the nebulizer now and said Max will need it soon too.

the holiday weekend makes everything tricky, the pedi said if the boys get really bad this weekend to take them right to the children's hospital (about 30 min away).

MIL and I tried to give Sam the nebulizer and it was horrible does anyone have any tips?

Oh and to top it off Max is getting 2 teeth!  Needless to say, I'm opening the bottle of wine tonight!

  • oh i am so sorry the boys are sick! With the nebulizer I used to sit on the floor with my legs crossed (indian style) and tuck DS in between them and kind of sit on his legs so he couldn't move them then I would put his head in the crook of my arm and then wrap the rest of my arm around him to hold his arms. then with the free hand hold the mask to his face. He would scream and cry every time but that is actually better for them b/c then they are taking deep breaths.

  • My boys cried and tried to wriggle away when we first started using the nebulizer.  We found that having them watch TV while we did the treatment helped.  We were cautioned though about having them watch their favorite show every time to neb.  If you do they might start associating the two which could back fire.

They hated it the first few times then they kind of settled in and made the most of it.  Hang in there!

  • We use the tv. Our current favorite is The Sound of Music. We just run through and play / sing all the songs. They were awful the first few times, but now that they know the deal it isn't so bad.

I'm sorry they are sick. I hope it gets better soon. The fourth day was the worst for us - and each one hit that point on a different day, like yours. We are now about 7 days in and they are starting to act *slightly* better. The cough is still horrendous.

    Sending good thoughts your way!
  • I am so sorry, I hope they are feeling better soon.
  • ugh! So sorry to hear that! One thing I have to say though- my friend here with twins just went through it with hers.. and they got better SO quickly- I hope yours get better quickly too!
  • I don't  have any tips, but just wanted to say hugs for all that's going on right now.  I hope the boys are feeling better soon and that your bottle of wine was good!
