Tick prevention without DEET?

So we moved to a very wooded area back in October. We get a lot of deer and last night DH came home and said he read in the paper that the tick population is going to be extremely high this summer. I'm just concerned about how to protect my kids while they are playing in the yard.

I recently purchased Badger's Anti-Bug Balm stick (https://www.badgerbalm.com/p-21-anti-bug-balm.aspx) to protect my kids from mosquitos and hope it works on ticks too although it doesn't explicitly state that.

I've heard that you can line your yard with real cedar chips that it will keep them away. I know this can get pricey but it's worth looking into!

We use Neem Oil. One ounce in a gallon of water with a few drops of soap to emulsify. Refill a spray bottle with the solution as needed and spray on. Stinks, but it works.
