Re: If you had/have an Ergo, which best describes your use?

  • For a month or two the only way DS would fall asleep for a nap was in the Ergo. I love that thing and wished I would have gotten it sooner.

  • This is an answer to both of your polls:

I live in FL and in a suburban, almost rural, area.  I use my stroller for clothes shopping, college sporting events, and theme park/zoo trips.  It's usually too hot for me to wear her to the latter events,.

I use the Ergo when going upstairs for laundry, to the store,  library, to the park, when walking around downtown, when at fairs/festivals, ect.  ETA: Back carries are my best friend.

Both have their uses and I'm very satisfied with both.  I expect to be able to use both for a long time.

however long the night, dawn will break.

i voted for daily use but just this week he has been fighting it...he would rather try to walk. thinking about trying him on my side or back with ergo if he continues to fight it.

Definitely try a back carry. Both mine liked it when they were older because they could see more than with the front carry.

OP - I have a Beco, but it's the same type of carrier. I've been using it fairly frequently with DS2 since he was born. It's great for when we're out and it's too far for him to walk, or I don't want him getting lost.

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I only tried it once with DD and it was a huge fail. BUT I didn't get it until she was already walking (just happened to find a great deal) and I got more with future kids in mind than DD. Our moby was awesome when she was younger, so I think if I had started the ergo then too we would have gotten a lot of use out of it.

  • I used it a lot more when she was younger, but still use it now. It's the only way I can go grocery shopping and lug her and the groceries up our stairs without having to worry about potential doom :)

  • I wish I'd gotten in sooner (didn't get it until LO was 4 months or so). And I wish I'd used it a bit more. But for the time I did use it, it was awesome. Soooo much more comfy than any other carriers I was lent. DS slept in it so well too - even while out mowing the lawn on DH's back!

  • I used it a TON in the beginning, but have been using it less now that she is walking...

I need to try the back carry- I think she would like it and I can't stand shopping trips right now with DD!  She doesn't want to sit in the cart and isn't a good enough walker to put her down in busy stores...

  • I clicked other. We're still using it but not very often. I like it for the grociery store when she wants out of the cart but I can't let her roam. She'll ride in it peacefully and just kiss and pat my chest as we walk. I love it.

  • I loved it in the few months that we used it. We didn't get one until A was 4 months old and I used it daily from 4 - 7 months and then occasionally from 7 - 10 months. I haven't used it since early December because A prefers to walk or ride in the stroller.

  • I used my Moby daily until LO was just too big for it. I take the Ergo with us when we travel and I use it instead of a stroller-walking through the airport, at the zoo, taking walks, etc. She actually prefers it to the stroller, as she can see more.

  • I wasn't able to use the Ergo until LO was around 6 months old because he hated the infant insert and hated being carried facing me in general.  I used an infant seat and stroller to get out and about until I was able to put him in an Infantino crotch dangler at around 4 months old.  He looooooovvvvvvedd that thing and I used it for a few months until he was ready for the Ergo hip carry.

Now we use the backpack carry in the Ergo.  It is great but after an hour or two body heat transfer gets to be a bit much for both of us.  I don't use the Ergo daily but I use it at least once a week.

we used it in the beginning with the infant insert. after about 5? 6? months he didn't like being confined in it. we now have a hiking backpack that he sits in that he LOVES.

I think I would still get it (as a gift) . . I used to wear him around the house some when he was really young it just didn't end up being a long-term thing for us.

  • I voted daily, but it wasn't an Ergo - either a Pikkolo (another SSC) or a woven wrap.

I don't know how we would have survived without it.  DH and I both agree that the Ergo was hands-down the best baby gear purchase we ever made. =)

(DS is almost two, and we still use it on occasion since he hates riding in grocery carts).

  • I voted love it and used it quite a bit, but we still use it. There are many circumstances that I've been so glad I had it. I only wish I'd bought it sooner. I didn't get one until DD was 8 months.

  • I started using the Ergo at 4 months. At that point DD was about 14 pounds and the hand me down baby bjorn was starting to hurt my back. The firs time I really used it was when we went to Europe when DD was 4 months old and it was great. That first trip we took the stroller ( which we haven't done since when we are traveling) but I mostly carried her around the airport and through customs etc.

I used it a lot until she could walk (around 13.5 months). She took a lot of naps on the go and grocery shopping was so much easier. Often I would plan grocery shopping around her nap time so she would sleep through it (she usually napped only about 30 minutes). I also used it to cook ( back carry) . I started using the back carry at 7 months when I wanted to help my DH take down Christmas ornaments which would have been impossible without carrying her. I live close to her pedi and also the BF support group I go to and we would always walk (even if it was really cold). The only time I would use a stroller is for a quick trip into Target or something or if I did not want her to fall asleep....

Since that Europe trip we have bagged the stroller for travel all together and just use the Ergo. She doesn't really like the stroller anyway. I can't say I missed the stroller at all.

Now that she is walking I still use it for grocery shopping or walks to the pedi although now she will often walk herself. I still carry her through the airport and still do that in a front carry (just easier when you are wearing a winter coat). She is till pretty content in there but we don't use it very much any more now that she is walking. When I go to Target or Sam's etc I usually just have her in the cart or she walks holding on to the cart.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Denver for the day and when we went to the museum it was right around her nap time so I put her in a back carry and she slept for about 45 minutes. She has never slept in a stroller and I am not sure she would so the carrier still works for napping on the go.

the Baby Bjorn was fine for the first few weeks. Since I knew very little about baby wearing I am glad I had some time to research it more and find out a lot of info on he AP board. That's when I decided on the Ergo. I did not get the insert since she was 4 months old. I did use a blanket for a while since she did sort of disappear inside until she was a little bigger Smile

I think it was well worth the money for as much as I have used it. I had also bought the little drool pads for it but she always sucked somewhere other than where those pads were....those were a bit of a waste

  • We bought our Ergo from a site like BabySteals.  We barely used it, and sold it on craigslist.

H tried on the Britax carrier at BuyBuyBaby, and pretty much insisted on getting it (his mom paid for it.)

And then he barely used the Britax.  :sigh:

*Disclaimer, E's about 97th percentile, and I never felt comfortable wearing him.  H wore him a handful of times.  We picked the Ergo due to all the positive reviews.  E seemed more comfortable in the Britax, though.
