Kangaroo carry?

I am wanting to get a new wrap and debating on length.  I am looking at a gypsy mama wrap for summer and the lady at the store recommended getting a shorter wrap and wrapping my newborn in the Kangaroo carry in order to be the most cool.  For some reason, I may remember reading before DD was born that many newborns hate kangaroo carry but it could have been another carry completely.  Is this true in your experience?

Re: Kangaroo carry?

  • I always did a tummy to tummy in my ring sling when LO was a newborn for the head support. She's four months now and the kangaroo carry is the only way she's really liking the sling right now.

  • For the first 4 months we did tummy to tummy in my baby k'tan. Even now that DD is just over a year she still loves being carried super close on my hip in the ring sling, so she can still snuggle.

  • Kangaroo is very popular for NBs in my BW group. That said, it doesn't feel good on my pikcy back, so I have never used it. I do FWCC and if you bunch the crosses under baby's bum rather than spreading them out, I think it is just as cool for baby. Baby is positioned similarily in both--upright and tummy-to-chest/tummy with you.

That is something I hadn't thought of!  I also have a not so great back so I need all the support I can get.  I also forgot about their being a Kangaroo carry in the ring sling that faces out which is different than the one for wrapping.  I might just have to wait until the baby gets here and try out the carry before ordering a wrap.  I so just want to get the wrap!!
