Breakfast before daycare?

Right now I usually nurse Isaac before daycare, send him to school with 5-6 ounces of purees, and then feed some finger food at dinnertime. He's starting to reject nursing from time to time, and he did this morning (he woke to eat at 5:15, then when I offered the other side at 7:30 he was not interested). I guess he's starting the process of weaning. Are any daycare moms giving solids in the morning before school? I was thinking of making some healthy pancakes or muffins for him to nibble on while we get ready. Kind of worried about him making a mess of himself.

Re: Breakfast before daycare?

  • I have absoltely no time to do anything before drop off.  I wake LO up. Change his diaper dress him and drop him off.  I wake him up at 7:45 and he is at DC by 8:05.  Since it is such a short time he isn't fussing or hungry yet.  They heat his bottle and serve him finger food while it is heating. It's usually bagels, muffins, crackers and cheese, french toast, pancakes, fruit or cereal.

  • I give LO a bottle in the morning before daycare, but that's it. I wouldn't really have time to feed him a meal before leaving. At daycare he usually gets 2 meals of solids (and a little purees) and 1-2 bottles and sometimes a snack (solids).

  • I always give a bottle when she wakes up and then about 15 minutes later give some solids. My DC doesn't do breakfast so I kind of have to.

  • When I worked at a daycare lots of kids had breakfast at daycare. Talk with your provider and maybe they could do breakfast or if you can fit it into your schedule that would work too. We just uped ds solid intake to three meals, I feel like i am constantly feeding him.

  • I don?t feed Bell anything before daycare.  I wake her up, she gets changed and we head out.  She normally falls back asleep on the car ride over.  Daycare feeds her about 8:30 so I?m not worried about her not getting food soon enough.  Also it gives me a little time on the weekend as she doesn?t wake up hungry at 6:45 instead will sleep till almost 8 before she realizes i didn?t come wake her.

  • I feed LO solids when he gets up in the morning. Then I nurse him right before we leave for daycare. He's a hungry little guy! But actually I was always in the habit of nursing right before daycare (pump one less bottle that way, I guess). Then the pedi wanted him on 3 meals of solids per day, so I added breakfast.
  • He doesn't get anything before DC.  He doesn't like to eat when he wakes up for the day - he likes to wait a bit.  Even on the weekends he refuses to eat for at least 45 minutes.  The only way I would be able to feed him before DC would be if he woke at 6am, which I would NOT be happy about!  He typically wakes at 6:30 (and that's when I wake) and we leave for DC at 7:00 and he usually takes his first bottle and his purees at 7:30.
  • It sounds like we have more time in the morning than most. We all wake up at 6:30 and leave for daycare at 8. He is fed solids there at about 9:30 most days. I'm not too worried about him getting enough food, he is a hungry little guy and definitely demands food when he is hungry. Just wondering what others were doing.

We only have time to give LO a bottle before DC.  When she gets there she'll have whatever is being served for breakfast that she is able to handle.  I also don't have time to clean up the mess left from doing solids/table food.

  • I leave at 6:30 AM so I don't have a ton of time to give V breakfast before I leave.  Usually I wake him up, he nurses for 15 minutes and then I hand him off to DH.

DH told me they sit on the couch together and share some toast or cereal.  DH makes himself a bowl of cereal and adds a handful of plain Cheerios in the bowl so he can spoon them out for V.  (DH probably eats Raisin Bran so that isn't really baby-friendly).  I think it sounds adorable and I wish I was a fly on the wall to see the cuteness of them sharing breakfast. Anyways, V also eats breakfast at 9:00 at the DCP's house.  He usually has fruit, yogurt, and dry cereal.

This is the cutest thing!!!  Wheras on Saturday DH made a bowl of cheerios and looked in to where I was playing with Ty and said "Ty, I've got your Cheerios!  What are you gonna do about it?!"  The best part - Ty has been working on his "intimidating face" and he gave DH a death stare!

  • LO is usually up around 6am, I get him dressed and give him a 7oz bottle.  I leave to go to work at 6:30 and DH takes him to daycare around 7:30.  Then our sitter feeds him breakfast around 8am.  There's no way I have time to feed him solids, but he doesn't need to eat solids at that point since he's just had an entire bottle.
