How do you squeeze in bath time??

We only bathe Martin two to three times a week. Even that's hard squeezing in sometimes, like if he had terrible naps that day or is more tired than usual. Do you just squeeze it in, even if they're exhausted, or do you skip it and wait for the next day?

Re: How do you squeeze in bath time??

  • We rarely skip bath time - I think the only time I have skipped it was the other night when our tub was clogged.  N gets food everywhere and try as I might, I can never get it all wiped off.  Plus I like to send him to bed feeling clean - I love the feeling of being fresh from the shower.  If he is super tired, we just make it a quick one.  It takes probably 3 minutes to do the actual washing - the rest is just play time - so if he's tired, I can have him in and out in under 5 minutes.

For us, it's part of the bedtime routine. We go up about an hour before I want him asleep and I start his water. While that's running, we read some stories. Then bathe for however long it takes for 2 Queen songs to play, close to 10 min. (We have a cd we made for him. He now knows that when "You're my Best Friend" starts, it's time to get out and he no longer fusses and cries that bathtime is over.) Then he gets his jammies on, says goodnight to Daddy (if MH is home from work that night) and then we nurse/bottle and bed.

On the rare occasion we aren't home an hour before we want him to be sleeping, we skip the bath.

  • There have been nights where we've skipped his bath...like tonight for instance. It's definitely hard to squeeze it in some nights (especially week nights) since it seems like our night time routine is so rushed. We get home from work, cook dinner, eat dinner, feed Reed, play with him...and the next thing you know, it's past 7:00 and time to get him ready for bed! Reed loves taking his bath though, so I try to bathe him every other night.
  • For us it's part of the bed time routine for the older kids, and I just throw DS in either with the other boys, or if he's in a playful mood I'll put him in with the girls.  In the winter we bath Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, in the Summer we bathe every day (because they are outside more often and we use sun screen).

  • I actually do bath time during the day before nap. I only bathe them 3 to 4 times a week.

Fun fact: L screams bloody murder if I try to put her in the tub with out A being in there. She will not sit down and acts like I am the worse mother ever if I try.

  • We bathe him  about 3 times a week. We were doing it more often, but Ash started getting really dry patches that didn't go away until we reduced baths.

I try to make sure I don't skip them now that we reduced the frequency, but there have been a few times he was too fussy to tolerate a bath, so I baby wipe bathe like I do on non bath nights. I usually will give hi.his bath early the next day.

  • we usually do it every day. Of course F goes to bed laser though. I start the routine about an hour before bed time. That way we can play and mess around a bit.

She eats, then gets a bath, then dressed, lotioned, vitamins, combed and then we play for a few and read before I put her to bed.

  • We do skip it sometimes.  If we are out running errands later than normal, if he falls asleep early, we will skip bathtime.  I want to say I have done this about 2 hands full.  I try not to though because I also can not stand going one day without a shower.

  • DD gets two "baths" a week, one on Sunday morning with Daddy and one on Thursday morning after swimming. The Thursday one is impossible to skip, the Sunday one sometimes gets moved to Monday if Daddy doesn't get up in time on Sunday but it is rare as he loves his daddy daughter time!

DD's now started to come in the shower while I'm in there (of her own accord) so now she's getting a showering then too.

  • Bath time is part of her bedtime routine so we rarely skip it. Like you we will skip it if O is really cranky and tired, but we pick it up again the next day.

  • My child is a sticky dirtyball most days (especially daycare days), so we rarely skip a bath.  If he is cranky or tired we will do a quick wash down without tub play time.  I make sure to get his hands, feet, face, and bum; hose him off a little and get him in his pjs ASAP.

  • I understand where you are coming from hepcats.  It would not work as part of our bedtime routine because she is usually getting tired during dinner and after that we go straight into the bedtime routine.  If we both worked I don't know when I would do it.  As it is I bathe her during the day--either after breakfast or lunch every other day.  After other meals I just wipe her down thoroughly. :)
  • We do bath time every night too. She usually goes to bed about 8-8:30 and this is part of the routine. She has her last bottle at about 7:30 and then off to have a bath before bed.

  • I always squeeze it in.  Stella loves bathtime and it is part of our bed time routine.

  • What's this squeezing it in you speak of? We have a hard time getting her a bath every night. Unless she's had a super messy dinner time she usually gets a bath every other day, except the weekends. Easier to get her a bath on the weekends.

  • We almost always bath her everyday (only soap a few days a week, unless dinner got her super messy).  We do it before her bottle because since we moved bedtime back she's been pretty tired after her bottle and some nights passes out right after eating.  If she's grumpy the bath makes her happy and buys us some extra time before bed.
  • It's pretty much a necessity with all of the spit up, he's kinda smelly by the end of the day :)  (and now that we're doing mostly all finger foods, it's really necessary...I don't know how he manages to get it everywhere, but he's a mess after meals!)  we just cram it in, even if it's just a quick scrub, then straight out of the tub.  it's part of our bedtime routine at this point, he's come to expect it.
