Milk question...

Hi!  Not sure if this is becoming a redundant question but I'm wondering when you all started transitioning LOs from formula to regular milk.  Also, DH and I are both lactose intolerant.  I'm wondering if we do start LO on milk, should we just start him off on Lactaid (or any other lactose-free milk) that we have at home.

We started at a year after discussing it with our pedi. I'm not sure about the lactose intolerant question, I would ask the pedi about that too.

  • Talk to your pedi but if baby is on regular formula, not soy or other non-milk based one I would think your baby is fine with lactose.  Most formulas are made from cow's milk.

  • We are beginning to transition now to wcm. A little sooner than a year Lo refuses to BF during the day when we go anywhere and won't do formula so I figure just the day time feeds to wcm is better than no milk. I offer water but still. If it weren't for this I would wait til as close to year as possible, maybe a couple weeks before. As for the lactose question.. I think as pp said you would know by now if your LO was lactose intolerant if you give regular formula and not soy etc.. as that contains cows milk.

  • My Pedi said don't do any sort of transition until she's 1. Come Friday we'll be starting the process Big Smile

  • Everything I have heard has said to start at a year, so that's what we are planning. Mine doesn't drink formula, but I plan to start nursing her less and giving her cow's milk after a year. For the Lactaid stuff... I would think it would be fine, but just check with your pedi first to make sure there isn't a better substitute for young children.
