So, I went and got a pedicure. I made the stupid mistake of reading about pedicures and pregnancy and that the foot massage that they do can cause preterm labor. I am freaking out now! She massaged my feet! I am 17 weeks.
It's probably fine. Google is horrible that way - start trying to use it to figure out what's causing your next headache... you will come away with a diagnosis of brain cancer.
All of this...google can be the death of your peace&sanity. Unless she was specifically pushing those points and you have a history of preterm labor I would just enjoy the massage and cute toesies

It's fine - I've had 2 babies and pedis throughout. If pedis induced labor woman in their 38th week would be lined up outside and we wouldn't need pitocin. There are pressure points that aid in labor but again - only certian drs believe that.
A pedicure will only cause labor if you're body is ready to, um, go into labor. Pedicures are just fine. I've had them done during all 3 pregnancies up until the very end and they still never put me into labor (even when I was 6cm dilated for 3 weeks with DD.)
dont freak out lol I work as a massage therapist and (gasp!) I massage regnant womens feet! I personally dont believe that a gentle foot or shoulder rub will send you into labor, jmo. the biggest concerns for massage during pregnancy is using more caution around the joints, because they are looser, and no seriously deep pressure due to increased blood pressure. enjoy your pedicures
I had pedicures throughout my pregnancy with my first, especially toward the end because it helped with my swelling. There is a pressure point on the back of the heel that can cause contractions. It has nothing to do with the foot itself.

You know, some people actually have questions. Whether or not you think it's dumb, doesn't mean others do. I though this was a forum for QUESTIONS???!!!
A pedicure massage isn't nearly intense enough and you wouldn't put up with a massage that was intense enough to induce labor. I have had a labor inducing massage when I was overdue with DS, and it was more painful than relaxing. Also, it didn't even induce labor because he still wasn't ready. Don't worry about it.

Yes, except for the really stupid ones.
Agreed.
OP- don't you think that if a pedicure could cause a woman to go into labor that the nail salon wouldn't let you have one?
And if pedicures really cause labor, don't you think the doctors might start giving pedicures out at the hospital at 41 weeks instead of heavy duty drugs like pitocin?

Re: Pedicure and freaking out now!
I have had 3 pedicures, with foot massages during this pregnancy with no problems.
It isn't the foot massage, it is the ankles. Also, if you didn't start having contracts at the time, it is unlikely that it will start later.

I'm still shaking my head.
