Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How often and how long does your 6 month old nap?

My LO naps sleeps from 7-8 with 1 or 2 feedings overnight. He naps now 3 times a day around 10, 1 and 3:30 but only for 30-45 minutes at a time. I have tried everyhing to lengthen them but nothing works. He is not that whiny in between and greets me with a smile when he wakes. How long does your little one nap? Will this time lengthen?

  • Mine naps three times at the exact same time as yours...He usually goes to bed anywhere between 830-1030 and will wake up at either 7 or 8 every morning. His 30-45 minute cat naps are starting to become 1 1/2-2 hour naps now. Is your LO in a crib? We used to put him in his swing or pack n play for naps but the past week he's been in his crib for everything and seems to do great. We put a white noise on and sometimes his little aquarium that's hooked up to the crib. He'll stare at that for awhile and then dose off. Even if he's not sleeping, I still get an extra 20 minutes of him just relaxing by himself.

Thats crazy that you can tell when your little one naps, considering you are 65 weeks pregnant! ...change your ticker.

But seriously, E sleeps from 7 to 6 each night with a wakeup to eat at 330 or 4. She too, only takes 30 to 45 min naps and is generally happy in between them. I've started to Feberize during her naps to try and lengthen them but its only been a day so we are still seeing how it's going. Either way she stayed in her crib for a full hour, or at least 30 minutes after we start the Ferber method (he recommends stopping trying to get them to go back to sleep after 30 min). We do white noise and blackout shades too. I think the naps will start to lengthen as they get older. That's what everyone keeps telling me anyways and I'm still waiting! Good luck! Sorry I wasn't more help.

  • DS will be 6 months tomorrow but his sleep schedule is something like this...up for the day between 6-6:30, nap from about 9-11, nap from about 1-3, down for the night by 6:30.  He lengthened his own naps around the 5th month when he dropped his late day nap.  We had to put him down earlier at night (5:30ish) for a few weeks until he readjusted.

  • We recently started a three nap schedule.  DD wakes between 6-6:30 am so her naps are 8/8:30 , 11:30/12, and 2:30/3.  They move 1/2 hour either way based on how long/short the prior nap. This has been working but we do still get a fair number of 45 min naps though in the last month we get more hour or hour plus naps.  I do leave her in the crib one hour regardless though she doesn't often go back to sleep.  For us it is has just been a matter of time and development -- I fretted a lot early on about the short naps and she mostly wakes happy so I am trying to let it go.  I just try to give her three solid opportunities.
