Transitioning from potty ring...any advice?

When we PT'd DS we used a potty ring for our toilets and a fold-able seat for public bathrooms.  It's been a few months and DS still has no interest in sitting on a toilet without the ring.  Any ideas on how to transition him?  It's not a big deal for us now but he'll be going to pre-school in Sept and I would love it if he wasn't still relying on the ring at that point!

  • I lied.  I told her I accidentally broke the potty seat.  I apologized for breaking it, etc...

She uses the toilet when we're out just fine.  After I told her the potty ring was broken, I asked her to use it like a big girl, like she does when we're out.

So far so good.  The only time we have issues is when she has to poop.  She gets a little cranky about not having it anymore.

  • We bought something like this from the local hardware store.  It has a built in toddler seat and also the regular toilet seat.  This helped DD transition out of the ring.  She now chooses to sit on the big part 90% of the time.

we just bought these too.  Not only do they help with the transition, but they look nice and the inner potty ring doesn't mess up the toilet seat, like DD's potty rings have been doing!

  • DD uses her potty ring 'off and on' while in the house. I wouldn't care if she used it all the time. We never used a potty ring in public and I usually just hold her. She uses a step in our downstairs bathroom for balance. So, her feet are flat on the step and she doesn't have to balance on the bowl (no ring). Anyway, our preschool has small toilets, close to the floor- so the children don't need a potty ring. I'd check the toilet size in your preschool before you put any effort into this.
