DD has been taking 2 naps a day since around 6 and a half months. Prior to dropping her third nap, she started fighting it a lot for several weeks before it disappeared all together. She's doing the same thing now. Her morning nap, which she doesn't fight at all, has recently lengthened from 1 hour and 15 minutes (on average) to over 2 hours. It's from 10 am to around noon-ish. She's completely awake until around 4 pm, when she usually gives a couple of yawns, but it's so late for a 2nd nap by that time.
I've read it's most common to not drop to 1 nap per day until after 1 year of age, but I'm sure there must be some variability in that. Has anyone's LO dropped the 2nd nap before 1 year?

DS is in the process of dropping his 2nd nap. He only takes two 1 hour naps right now (and is starting to fight both) and I think it would be more beneficial for him to take 1 two hour nap (he sleeps 12 hours at night and 10 month olds need 14hrs/day so I think that would be perfect).
When I was reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, the author said that about 17% (something like that) of 10 month olds only need one nap.
WOW! My Cecilia takes three naps still, but the third nap is slowly being taken out. She takes one at 7am for about two hours then one in the late morning 11am for another two hours. Her third that she is dropping usually lasts about half an hour and starts around 530pm, her bedtime is 8pm and she sleeps til 6am.
I did see that she does still need 14 hours of sleep so this is working for us right now
DS dropped his afternoon nap around 9 months. His morning nap lasts about an hour and a half to 2 hours and he sleeps between 12-13 hours at night.
At almost 10 months, we're still at 2 naps most days. However, there are one or two days a week when the morning nap might go for 2.5 hours and then the afternoon never happens. On those days, I try to sneak in a catnap for 10-20 minutes with a stroller ride or something.
DS's second nap, when it happens, is around 4pm. Then again, we have a late bedtime (between 8-9:00). Frankly, I sort of like the 4:00 nap time because it helps me get dinner ready.
I would say about 75% of the time, my daughter only has one nap. And maybe a 10 minute cat nap in the afternoon on the way home.
Her nap is usually around 9:30-12:00. It is roughly a 2.5 nap. However, an afternoon nap is a fight--and as a result she goes to bed super early---many nights by 6:30pm! She also starts to get tired when it is too late for a second nap.
She wakes up at 5:30 every morning.
If I know that we are going out in the evening (like yesterday for MIL birthday) I will force two naps on her. I will make her morning nap earlier--and put her down for an afternoon nap. (She had 2 naps yesterday--each were 2 hours long!) Even though she went to sleep later than normal, she still was up at 5:30
