Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Moby wrap users

How old/big was LO when you started using the moby wrap? I tried the other day just wearing LO around the house and I really liked it and so did LO but I felt like he did not have enough room between his chin and chest which they say is a NO in the moby manual. At the time he was probably 7.5 lbs and a week old. Will waiting until he is bigger solve this issue or should I try a different wrap? I did the front wrap cross.

  • I believe the manual for the Moby says to use it starting at 8 lbs. It's really all in how you position LO's head. You can just sort of tip LO's head back. After a few weeks my LO started sleeping in the Moby with her head totally tilted backward-looks uncomfortable but she sleeps like a dream!

  • Babies need to be 8lbs to use the Moby and should be in the newborn hug hold until they can support their heads.

  • I didn't even realize there was a minimum weight! I used it with DD1 from the beginning. DD2 is only 5lb 6oz and I used it for a long walk the other day. I just made sure her head was turned to the side and I could see her face the whole time.

  • I started using it when DS was just about a week old. He was 7 lbs 7 oz...we had weight gain issues, so I made sure to pay close attention to size. I didn't realize there was a specific weight needed.

  • I believe the minimum weight is 8 or 9 lbs. DD was 8 lbs 10 oz at birth and I started using it when she was around a week or so old.

  • I also didn't realize the weight issue as mine was a hand me down and my friend showed me how to use. I didn't have or read a manual (bad mom?). I started when DS was about 6.5#....what is the danger when they are under 8#? I always have his head to the side so I can constantly see and be sure he has nothing near his nose and mouth.

  • I use it and have since he was 5 lbs.  I use it because the other backpack type carrier I have is too big for him.  it even says on the box ok for preemies. I bought it for this reason, since you can use it with a preemie. I don't know how to tell you to use it, I just make sure he is visible and high on my chest when I use it. I followed the instructions on youtube.

  • we dont have a moby, but we use a baby k'tan which is similar. we started using it right away as well and just make sure your lo is positioned properly - just tilt their head back a bit. use the newborn hold and you can always reposition a little if needed. once they are a bit bigger and have more head control you can try the other ones. also, the 8# minimum is on almost all carriers, but its still ok to use wrap styles before 8#.
