my 1st 5k is in 3 weeks

OMG - I started running in Jan. and thanks to the nice weather, have been able to get outside for my running a lot sooner than I thought I would.  I had already signed up for a fall 5K and was waiting to see how I was doing.  I decided to sign up for a 5K that is in 3 weeks thanks to my DH's pushing me/supporting me.   OMG - what did I do?  Time to really kick up my training - my longest run so far was 2.5 miles so I know I can do it - I may be doing more of a walk/run combo than just a run but as long as I finish, I will be thrilled.  I am also signed up for a Run for Autism in mid May - running to honor a friends son who has Aspergers.

You can do it!  If you're running 2.5 miles now you'll be able to do an extra half mile easily just on the adrenaline atomosphere pushing you during the race.  With other people running around you its definately motivation to keep going (and faster than training pace. at least that's what I've found) and if you have to walk its no big deal people do it all the time.  Everyone is at various levels when it comes to 5k's.  Its great that you are out there supporting a good cause.  Good luck with your training!

  • Good luck! Since you've already done 2.5 miles you can definitely do the 5k. I did an 8k a few weeks ago and had only run about 2.5 miles at all before that. Granted I did not run the whole way, it was something to accomplish. There is a 5k coming up here called Color me Rad that benefits the YMCA, they apparently throw colored corn-starch on you while you run. I am thinking about doing that so I have a reason to keep running and stay motivated but I am not so sure about the whole being a rainbow at the finish line.

But once you see the finish line your adrenaline will get going and there will be lots of people cheering.

  • Thank you both - Kim&Ben - that race sounds like fun!

  • Good for you! You can totally do it- another .60 miles is nothing if you can do 2.5. Have a great race!

There was a 5k in Vegas recently called the Color Run that did the same thing. I think it would be fun to be a rainbow at the end! I wasn't able to go because of scheduling, but I really wanted to!

Good job keeping with it! I stopped :(
