Birthday Parties?

What time would you start a 3rd birthday? DH and I cannot make up our minds. Nap time is usually 12-2.

Re: Birthday Parties?

  • I would start it at 12.  I hate when birthday parties are at 2pm because then it's not early enough that you can do something after - and not late enough that you can do something before.  I'd just make it 12 and have him take a nap after.

  • Do you want to serve a full meal?  Where are you having it?

We are having DD's at 5:00pm and serving dinner.  DD naps from 3-5 and since we are having it at our home we decided to have it right when she gets up and not cut into her nap.  Also since we have many guests driving over an hour, we wanted to serve a full meal.  DD's worst time of day is in the afternoon before her nap.

  • If there are going to be a lot of kids, I would do it at abot 2 or 3. Most little kids take their naps at around noon or 1 so the other parents won't have to re-arrange their kids nap schedule.

  • DS' party is today- he's 2... naps from 1-3:30 but we're putting him down early and starting the party at 3pm.  We usually have parties around 1pm... but since it's DS' birthday- I'd rather him be well-rested than have it at a "normal" time.

  • We always have our parties at 10 AM. play for an hour, eat an early lunch, presents and cake, everyone out before 1 pm nap

  • We always do our birthday parties late. We start them between 3-4.

Our bbq we start at1:00 (but that's an all day event) and our Chrismas parties we start at 5:00.

  • It is hard at their age. I had DD"s at 3-5 so she would get a nap in, I didn't have to serve a whole meal, and I still had time to finish up last minute things that morning. A lot of the parties we have been invited to lately start at 1. It surprises me b/c all of the kids at her school take naps from 12-2 so why would the parents want to interfere with naps and have a bunch of cranky toddlers on their hands?

  • 10-12 and serve brunch, or 3-5 and just have cake and snacks, or 5-7 and serve dinner.  I'd choose based on what food you feel like making.  We've had parties in all those time slots that went well.  DS1's 3rd birthday was 10-12 and DS1 slept through the entire thing, so that wasn't the best for us, but you don't have that problem yet.

  • I was going to do DS party at 2pm and serve snack like foods and cake and icecream but apparently people think that is tacky and gift grabby to not serve a full meal. So now im contemplating a different time and what foods to make.
