2nd Trimester

Question, I ate two small bites of ham l

I ate two small pieces of honey ham. Like the ham you would eat at thanksgiving lol. Anyway it was fully cooked, but I didn't even think about it when I ate it. Anyone eat ham while pregnant?

Re: Question, I ate two small bites of ham l

  • Didn't know there was anything wrong with eating ham?  My OB actually said any lunch meat was fine anyway, so I'm sure you're fine with Thanksgiving ham.

  • Your baby most certainly shall be born with three heads.

Totally joking, lol...you'll be fine, I promise. I know its a Listeria concern but 2 tiny bits won't hurt you. Just think of all the things people eat (and drink) in their 1st trimester before they even know they're pregnant...no worries :)

  • Yes, I've had some. You should be fine.

  • Relax.  You and your baby are fine

  • Nothing's wrong with ham. I was only told to stay away from specifically lunchmeat unless it was organic or heated up. As a matter of fact, I'm going though a phase where I've been eating ham and eggs every morning. With all the no-nos out there, its bound to drive a girl crazy. 9 times (or more) out of 10, whatever happened is not going to have any effect. You're fine :)

    Really?

Your baby is fine from two small bites of ham. Your baby will be fine if you ate 20 large bites of ham.

21 might be asking for trouble though, unless you had it with mustard which has serious germ killing properties.. This is totally true, you don't need to look it up or anything, you can just trust me.

    Are you serious?

  • Lol. Thx. I worry about everything and my husband just laughs a says don't be dumb. Thx ladies. I think 25 bits woulda pushed the limit haha.
  • Seriously? This is the one question I see on here that drives me insane.  Eat ham, eat pineapple, just dont eat it out of a trashcan or somewhere thats it's been sitting out for hours and you'll be fine.  Wink

  • I eat lunch meant a few times a week.  I really trust my deli, and know that the store has an insane policy on sanitizing, and have actually seen them do it (it happens several times a day and they use a light to detect bacteria.)  When they open a product they re-wrap it in in fresh wrap, and do so every time they slice it.  I am also picky and only like boars head...

that being said, I don't eat lunch meat from anywhere else (even when I am not pregnant) because the grossness that accumulates in a deli is really icky...I have worked in several, and if cleaning is not constantly going on it can be foul.

I also enjoy soft serve ice cream and many raw fruits and vegetables...and steak medium rare with blue cheese on top.

I was super paranoid with my last pregnancy and got very stressed out about everything, and we lost that baby.  This time around I have chilled out A LOT and things are going much, much better.  I guess we all just have to do what we think is right...and I wouldn't worry even if  you ate ham every day.

This! If you eat lunch meat you can microwave it for 30 seconds to kill any bacteria on it, but eating straight up ham, or turkey or chicken etc.is totally fine.

  • Like the other ladies said, it's not a big deal at all. My doctor could care less about the meat I eat unless of course it's green and slimy. lol

  • DONT DO IT

I ate ham, and my baby was born looking like this! I love my daughter, but if I could go back in time, I'd do things different.

Seriously, being this high strung and anxiety ridden is more detrimental to your baby than eating ham.

  • I eat deli meat SEVERAL times a week. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy, stop worrying about the small things.
  • Good to know. My best friend got listeria and she was very sick from it that's why I'm so paranoid I think. Lol I'm going to enjoy me a hot dog now!
  • I work at a school and had ham two times for lunch. I didn't think about it and ate it. I'm sure you're fine.
